This guy would be a killer returner.  He is faster, lighter on his feet than Hayne.

Doesn't have the creativity or vision as hayne, though.

Has looked good and will make the team seemingly but let's hold off on the "he will be a star, lol American "football" ::)" conclusions until he's doing it in regular season.  Most of these guys he's making look foolish will be cut or practice squad players.

My thoughts align more with this gentleman right here. ^^

Bugs me how much pressure this dude is getting.

It won't be long before people realise you can't rush him with single players.  In that gif above you can see the tackler has made the decision for him.  If the tackler slows up a little, he risks getting taken out the blocker but Hayne can't make a decision until he is sure which way he needs to go to make space for himself.  In rugby, there are no blockers - you cannot interfere with tacklers so that tackler would be free to be a hell of a lot less all in about their tackle.  Basically, in rugby, if someone pulled a kick chase like that defender, he'd be off the field quick smart.  That's why it is pretty fun to watch these NFL returns.  So much less structure.

He'll be in the last group cut. Australian viewership isn't a coveted market but maybe there's a spot on the practice squad for him at 75k/year.

So what , he'll never make a team .

I listen to these guys , they know their shit

haha.... the fastest slow white guy on the rugby team..

being chased by a bunch of slow <300lb white guys?

good luck breaking a tackle or running past this:

Yeah, I think he's going to be in for a rude awakening. However, Pete Carroll began introducing rugby-type tackling for high school, college and pro athletes to reduce the amount of concussions so if anything this guy might be very effective if somewhere on defense.

I don't know shit about sports, but hes going to get destroyed.

good luck getting past a bunch of guys that look like this

NFL is so precise and timing is everything.  It doesn't translate well going from Rugby which is more open to NFL.  A couple fumbles and he's on the bench.

he runs upright with his chest forward in traffic.

sandlot football star

he'd be a good option back in college.

maybe he should play university ball for one year before the nfl

does the nfl still have that european development league?

LBS will make him quite.

Egos bigger than his brain, should have stayed in rugby he wont make the final playing roster, back in rugby next year at the latest.
He is Australian, amazing rugby league player but clearly delusional. best case scenario is he fumbles his way out of the league.
Worst case is he gets injured and cannot even go and make money back in Australia.

No.

We get it, you and TA hate football.

But this guy will be in the bottom percentile of NFL athletes

Just delusional. That guy couldn't make the team on a Division I college team. NFL players are explosively strong and the top of the food chain.
6'2" 228 ?   Lol. More like 5'11" 240  He is a toad who will get smoked in the NFL.  Can't wait to see him beheaded in preseason.

Probably on some slow, awkward cut back move where he looks completely out of place in comparison to the other 21 men on the field.

Yep.  Can you imagine that uprght style?  Most battles are won by who gets their pads lower.  And he will be a marked man.

We all know how this ends.

Supposed Euro Rugby "God" tries to compete with the Americans. Touches the ball 8 times. Gets injured. NFL Career Over. The End.

I have to remember to bump this thread in August when it takes place.

Amd the rugby crowd comes crawling out.  The no-pads nonsense is laughable.  The hits in rugby are nowhere near what they are in the NFL.  CTE, look it up.
In his highlight reel the vast makority of "tackles" were pathetic attempts at arm tacking that looked lids on a playground. That uproght style is going to get him smashed. He is used to outrunning slow white guys, in comparison to the NFL.
Might make a team as a novelty/return guy. Nothing more.

I dunno why people see it fit to make a judgement before seeing some proof.  Got a lot of respect for what the NFL is but a lot of the fans just look at the numbers.  All they give a shit about is how much the dude weighs and how tall he is ::)

I know there are probably people on both sides making lame judgements about "which sport is tougher", but a balanced judgement is that both sports have an elite level that is constantly evolving to the athleticism and talent of the human beings on the field AND the requirements of the game.  There isn't going to be massive difference between the two.  On the rugby field, you often have to perform for 80 minutes out of 95, which means you need to last and it lends to lower bodyweights.  On the NFL field, you use that unneeded endurance in explosiveness.

It's not surprising that a dude who has had a career of returning and running through lines for 80 minutes (with small halftime break) can adjust his training to be more explosive and do okay on an NFL field.

Also, not to discount his talent, but NFL seems to have really fucking low standards for kick returns.  Every professional rugby league team on the planet plays a player at the back who will punish a broken defensive line on a kick ::)

this is a prime example of how NFL players should be using their shoulder to tackle and not their heads. this guy has no helmet on and is slamming people with his shoulder on offense and defense.

Anxiously awaiting the day when a fat fuck of a lineman tries out in rugby league. Heart attack in less than 3 minutes, I bet.

And I'm anxiously awaiting the day a marathon runner enters into a powerlifting meet.

Or a pie making champion enters a bass fishing contest.

What's your point? It's comparing apples to oranges.

Clearly it was not, if the first well known league player who bothers to try it can get a serious shot in the NFL after only a few months specialising. He's left millions of american hopefuls behind him. Not bad for a first attempt.

Meh.

People were fawning all over him during preseason but as I stated earlier that is a completely different ballgame.

The guys he was making those plays against in pre season aren't even in the league right now so when it's all said and done he really didn't do anything against legit NFL competition.

They put him as a return guy which is generally designated for the 4th or 5th receiver/running back on the team. Really nothing special at all. I'll give him props for hanging around at the very bottom of the roster for half a season but that's really about it.

I think "not bad" might sum it up but I'll also say "not really good" either.

The difference wasn't pre-season lineups versus regular season lineups. It was the fact that he muffed three punt returns in the regular season versus zero in the preseason. Any punt returner who can't catch punts without fumbling is on the short track to the unemployment line. You had one job....
