I used an inversion table twice today
« on: March 10, 2015, 05:22:13 PM »
I timed myself. I was upside down for over a minute both times. I'm not sure if I should go longer.

My neck, spine, and ankles feel great.

I squatted today; and I have zero lower back tightness right now. I recommend it for those of you that have any kind of tightness or chronic irritation in the upper or lower back.

My ankles usually "pop" if I move my feet when I'm lying down. That has not happened once since I used the inversion board. Same with my neck.

I really believe I should give this a try. I've shrunk with age, which is the result of spinal compression. I have sciatica, which is also the result of degenerative spinal compression. I've had horrible posture for years which I suspect is a result of being a lot taller then my classmates at a young age. Equipment that would help me stretch out all the damage that has happened to my spine over the last five decades could be just the answer for me.

I am going to check out a place/gym that offers this equipment tomorrow.

I heard you are old. I'm only in my mid 30a and have all your symptoms. I don't have sciatica anymore because my disc slipped...the valium was great.

Hmm, that sounds great. I snap and crackle ominously when I do any single-leg or bilateral leg exercise and my lower back is always a danger point for me. I do a lot of foam rolling (no homo), but that doesn't always hit the problem area.

I don't know where one exists, sadly.

I've been foam rolling with a baseball to aggressive rehab the tears in my leg...FUN.

No need to go 100% upside down if it feels like your head is going to pop.

do these even work? My lower back is in constant pain.

The correct answer is: Sometimes, maybe.

I like mine but don't live with enduring pain.  They're cheap enough to roll the dice on tho.  And you get to feel like Batman.

First got inversion boots 8 years ago and after using them just once for 1 minute it sorted out lower back problems i`d had for 10 years. Finally i could squat again.I use them once a week now and if i could go back 35 years to when i started training this is the one piece of equipment i would want.

I used inversion boots once when I was younger. My back was fine and after using it my lower back hurt. Go figure. I don't have enough repeated experience with them to have an opinion whether repeated use is good or bad.

Best thing I ever did for my back and this is just my bro experience is stiff leg deadlifts. I use a block and a barbell. My knees are semi locked. I don't use a flat back that is in fashion now. I round my back somewhat and slowly go down until the bar touches the top of my feet. I know many will scream that's terrible for your back. I can only report on my lower back problems. Using this and weighted back extensions made my lower back nearly bullet proof. The stiff leg deadlifts stretch out the lower back and hamstrings. It makes them strong and flexible.

"Orbit Fitness"  An aussie purveyor of middling quality equipment geared to the home gym market.

It's just some rebranded chinese made thing but it works fine.  I bought it when injured and was glad I chose it over inversion boots.  When you're injured, you're not going to want to perform the gymnastic movements that the boots require to hook over a chinning bar.  I also found full inversion a bit much so it was nice to be able to select a moderate slope and proceed by degrees.

I found work boots provided some ankle padding and made the strap way more comfortable but foot-tug was still the time limiting factor.  I haven't set it back up since moving house.  The floor space it eats is the biggest downside.

I have one at home, love it... I try to use it daily, and hang for 10 mins or so, and I hold a 10 lb. dumbbell. Relieves disc pressure big time..

I'm old, you heard right. Damn but it sucks to have these things wrong when you are still a kid, well almost.

I hate taking pain medication. Can't stand being in an altered state. It's a control thing with me. Explains why I don't get drunk either. I just can't let go. No Valium for me, thanks.

I wish sometimes I could just walk out the sciatica induced neuropathy in my right foot, but the opposite is the case. The longer I walk, the worse it gets. Doing core exercises help some but they have not resolved the problem. I am thinking about getting Botox shots in my spine. I need to revisit this idea with my doctor.

Well, it was better than nothing. I could really feel my ankles getting pulled... I need to build up some confidence before I go for 5-10 minutes.

Let us know if it works better doing it for 5 or 10 minutes.

The inversion tables are great! I have compressed discs in my lower back from over 30 years of heavy training and it really helps with the decompression of the spine. I usually hang for 8-10 minutes and I've gone as long as 13 minutes. It's easier to do the inversion table compared to the inversion boots. The boots put a lot more stress on the ankles.

Well, the middle one is the longest.... ;D All kidding aside, I honestly don't know the answer to this. I assume they are.
