Barbell Curl vs Cable Curl

Anyone else feel they get a better workout with the cable curl?I feel like it puts more stress on the biceps throughout the whole movement

Agreed. I think this may be the case because with a cable you can control it better when you lower it. If youre using a heavy barbell, momentum is going to bring the bar down in a less controlled manner and less stress on the bicep.

For some reason I don't feel the muscle working when I use cables.  They just feel strange to me.

I really prefer to use barbell and dumbbell curls.

just variations in the direction of resistance, optimally you want to change it up every time you get back to a muscle group anyway.

I always do either straight bar curls or ez bar curls every bicep workout. I have to admit I wonder if I'm wrong not to do the straight bar cable curl. Whenever I do them I really feel them more than barbell curls. With barbell curls the resistance disappears toward the end. It's a really incomplete movement. Using a low pulley connection the movement is working the bicep through a more complete range of motion.

My elbows stopped letting me do straight bar curls, so I use the EZ bar. I don't have any cables, so that is out for me.

have always preferred straight barbell curls because they're harder to do than cables imo
people always say they get better isolation with cables but thats because they're form is poor with barbells.

slow negative, explosive positive, squeeze at the contraction in good form with heavy weight, drop sets you can't beat barbell curls imo because i think the resistance on the negative is harder than cables.
probably due to the difference in mechanisms of the weight - cables attached to a stack and weight directly on a bar.
ancillary muscles more involved too.

I've developed a liking for it as well. The tension is felt the whole range, you can even set the height of the cable and back up a few feet for different feel of the movement.

Would never do just cables, but with a cambered bar, I find it hard to beat as a top 3 movement for biceps.

yes a great exercise and donīt forget Drag Curls with a Barbell. This works the Biceps or at least Vince Gironda always said through a better range of motion..
