This is an “Old school”, classic, raw benchpress competition. NO benchpress super shirts allowed. Elbow sleeves/wraps are also illegal. Wrist wraps, chalk (hands) and weight lifting belts are acceptable. There will be a “Start”, “Press” and a “Rack” command. The bencher’s butt and shoulders must remain in contact with the bench pad at all times. The heels of the foot can be up or down, but the feet cannot slide around on the floor. Athletes can get a hand off out of the rack, but the “Start” command won’t be given until the hand off person has let go of the barbell and moved out of the way of the head judge. The bar must come to a full stop on the chest, before the head judge will issue the “Press” command, but an extended pause is NOT required. The “Rack” command will be given once the bencher’s arms are fully locked out at the conclusion of the lift. Each competitor will get 3 max bench attempts. Safety spotters will be in place. This contest will not be drug tested. The weigh ins will occur 2 hours before the lifting begins on stage. No one wearing any brand of “Competition tan color” will be allowed in the warm up area or on the benchpress stage. These tanning creams and sprays coat the barbells and benches and they are a safety hazard in addition to having the potential of making a mess of the competition grade, benchpress equipment.
