Why do Americans measure weight in both imperial & metric?
« on: March 12, 2015, 11:21:23 PM »
2lbs of chicken, 30gm of protein
Isnt it time to move out of the stone ages and embrace the more precise metric system?

No. Metric Sucks.
1km = 1000m = 100000cm = 1000000 mm

latin centi, kilo, milli etc.

but no, you guys have inch = 1/2 foot, foot = 3 yard, mile, 5280 ft, ounce = 1/20th pint, 1/16th lb etc... no consistency

What no consistency? Why are terms the of measurement that you favor, better than the terms of measurement that I favor?

I would rather measure my cock in inches than centimeters, but I guess euros like to brag about their 100 milimeter cocks.

Actually the Americans cant even get imperial right.
There are 20oz in a pint. 8 pints in a gallon.

In American they have 16oz in a pint and 8 pints in a gallon therefore their pints and gallons aren't same as real imperial pints and gallons.

And they measure BHP in SAE terms instead of DIN so they can exaggerate the output of their piece of shit car engines.

The United States of America is better than the rest of the world in just about everything.

And that can be a very tough pill to swallow, I am fully aware of that fact.

Because national standards are entrenched by virtue of the tons of stuff that already exists.  Hell, I've got Whitworth wrenches & sockets out there.

I'd rather work in metric than fractional sizes since I find it more intuitive but both exist and are going to continue to exist.  That's why any digital measuring tool will toggle between metric and imperial.  If you are at all involved in things where these questions arise then you already know that you're going to have to be conversant in both and that's just the way it is.

Btw most Americans don't call it Imperial.  It's feet 'n inches.  And the UK is way more confused than the US.

Becuase we can handle 2 systems. Hell, look at our government parties and culture. We love having 2 systems.

Metric system is easy as pie. Never understood why America uses both so it's a valid question even if the OP is a gimmick.
