Great segment by ESPN. Laettner was the truth. Fearless, cocky, had ice waters in his veins. Four straight final fours and two championships says it all.

Had a decent pro career as well. Made one all star team and played 13 seasons, mostly as a starter. Not too shabby.

And another note for anyone who has watched.......Jalen Rose is a straight up dick. A real hater. Yeah, maybe Laettner should've been ejected after the kick to the stomach in the 1992 NCAA semi-final. But even in college, just like the NBA, has the 'star system in place' for certain players. It is what it is. Only reason Jalen Rose believes Laettner should've been ejected AND suspended for the next game...is because it meant that the Fab Five of Michigan would've played Duke without Laettner in the Championship.

Hypocrite...because Rose wasn't beyond that type of behavior himself.

he never did much as a pro, had his real fame while at duke then pretty much nothing. Made a shitload of money as a scrub in the nba tho, and for a looong time. A journeyman.

Like I already said...13 years and one all-star year. I lot of players would take that. He was a starter for 7 of his 13 years in the league. And even during the last few seasons, he was still logging over 20 minutes a game. Hardly a scrub. High basketball IQ and great hands makes up for a lot of athletic deficiencies. Just never won anything on the pro-level and played on a lot of shitty teams.

. The e-60 shows and 30 for 30 always make me choke up like a baby. they are really good at pulling emotion from a story. I tear up worse with these sports ones than i do when a vietnam vet breaks down talking about his K-9 dog who got killed in the war or a ww2 guy who is choking up talking about his dead friends. Watched it earlier today, was great.

The notion that Laettner "wasn't any good" in the NBA is largely a myth perpetuated by him playing on mostly terrible teams (the Hawks teams he played on were alright but still not real close to championship contention). He was a solid pro.

A lot of his success in college came from his range. The NBA three was out of his range but he was a very solid NBA PF.
