Best .45 ACP match guns

Since most of you guys are either former spec ops with extensive firearms training or otherwise distinguished marksmen and I'm about to get my first gun (fucking hassle over here), I wanted your take on what the best match handgun (i.e. for the sole purpose of shooting for precision/sports) would be. Ideally I'm looking for something with a 6" barrel with polygonal rifling, and it should be available at a reasonable price. Let's face it, I'm probably not going to compete, so sinking $3000+ into a custom gun doesn't seem reasonable.

Currently looking at a used Les Baer Custom 1911 (~$1550) and a CZ 75 (customized by a company named Pro Tuning, ~$2000, which is also about the most I am willing to shell out). In the race are also the H&K USP Elite and a number of RBF Custom 1911s.

A cocked and locked 1911 platform is not a good beginner/first gun in terms of safety. A tricked out target colt clone isn't a gun that you would carry in the real world.

To fire a cocked and locked 1911 you have to take off the thumb safety, engage the grip safety and pull the trigger. 3 step process.

Compare that to a striker fired gun such as a Glock...

Meh... people that think Kimbers are the cat's ass, are noobs in the gun world.
They have too many plastic parts in their 1911s mainspring housing, mag release...etc. Which to me is a downside vs metal parts.
Also their reliability for what they cost $900-$1500 isn't there. Read the forums. My buddy bought one and loves it, but each time we go shooting the gun malfunctions way too often.

For the best price and quality Sig Sauer 1911s are the way to go. Their higher end models made in their custom shops come hand fitted. Matched frame and slide fit, dehorned, ...etc etc.

I will suggest something on the 1911 base BUT go for a staggered magazine: 12+1 is better than 7 (in the pic one of my guns+ .38 bullets we use for snakes lolz)

If it's your first handgun, just get a G21 or an XD.  They're cheap, durable, reliable, user friendly, and there's a huge market for custom parts.  No expensive, custom gun is going to make you a better shooter.  Only learning the basics, time and practice will do that.

You didn't go very well in school I take it. I said it's not a good gun for beginner and I stand by that. It is a safe gun for an experience trained shooter. I have carried a hand gun for 34 years. In the hands of the inexperience in a pressure situation you have a cocked gun with the safety off with a short travel trigger pull. I am not a fan of a Glock but it's safe if you practice trigger control.

How many major police departments carry a 1911 platform? Even the majority of the military carry a Beretta or a Sig double/single action.

I do agree with you that Kimbers have quality control issues. Two guys I know bought them and they couldn't get a magazine off without a jam.

Just to specify:

Shooting in this country works like this:
1. Go to range
2. Load gun once you're in your lane
3. Release sled once you're aiming at the target
4. Only ever pick up gun when you're about to fire

Safety concerns are not a thing at all. I'm not gonna carry it. Most match guns here don't even have a safety.

.45 is an expensive caliber to shoot.  Unless you just love 1911 style find something in .40 like a Sig P229 or M&P 40.  Cheaper so you'll shoot more often.

The part about police departments is funny... You probably know a few cops as do I. Cops suck at shooting & the ones I know only shoot to qualify. Most cops never Fire a round in their careers on a call. So the part where you say about what cops carry, doesn't mean jack.

Fact is that most departments prefer polymer guns due to weight, cheap cost vs 1911 & ammo capacity & most people can't handle 45acp recoil enough to be effective shooters.

I like 1911s. Have owned a few over the years. But there are guns I like to shoot more like Springfield XD & Sig P series.

Glock make excellent guns, reliable and sturdy. My 9mm was still excellent after approx 250.000 rounds (which for me was a little over a year use during the competing years). One day at the shooting range started sending all rounds top-right...gun dead...

What do you mean, "gun dead?" Sounds more like bad ammo or (unlikely) barrel erosion. New Glock barrels are like $125.

No bad ammo, I reloaded personally.
The problem was the slide: near the window for the explusion (sorry for bad English) a cut of approx 1 inch was evident.
Wish I have a picture but at that time mobile phones didn't have cameras!

So the slide was damaged and not the barrel? If the gun could lock-up into battery, I am not sure how a damaged slide could affect accuracy.

exactly like you said, gun could lock-up but send all rounds top-right.
Still one of the best guns I ever had.
Then started to train hoping to took part in Bianchi Cup, so I started demolishing 586 and 686
