the making of Predator.

Them talking about their workouts during the filming is cool and funny. Would have been a fun movie to make.

I heard a story that Van Damme was supposed to be the original Predator.

Can anyone verify?

I heard that Sonny/Billy was quite a character.  He was nuts in real life and a lot of people were afraid of him.

Yes Van Damme was the one who did the stunt jumps from tree to tree before he got a good movie gig that forced him to quite for his own career. Good move on his part.

It's true
I saw this documented, somewhere and think they replaced him with because of his lack of Height, think it was on a special edition predator dvd or something

Sonny was completely insane.  He was the Haku of the talent for that movie. Almost 100% American Indian.

He was a cop in the great gang movie The Warriors.  His big break was 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy.  Played the crazy Indian that broke Ganz out of prison.  Had a recognizable part in Poltergeist

No casting agents wanted to cast him because he was so volatile.  shame, he had a great look and could actually act.

Correct. Also, the original predator looked completely different. It had an insect like appearance. Thankfully, they realised it looked anything but intimidating and commissioned the predator we know and love to this day.

Van damme was on board, he even filmed stuff in the original lizard type suit. He complained about the heat in there, he couldn't breathe And thought the suit looked shit. They sacked him off and then realised the suit was crap and not intimidating or scary at all and had the suit redesigned. Predator was delayed quite a lot for stuff like this including most of the cast and crew getting ill

Only just now realized he was the loco injun in Chuck Norris' super campy Firewalker.  One of those shit-awful flicks that you like just because you saw it as a kid.

Edit: Just read his wiki.  Crazy not dulled by age, it seems.

On June 25, 2008, Landham announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Mitch McConnell on the Libertarian line.[5] The same day Landham called for genocide against Arabs and referred to them as "ragheads". His comments were made on the political radio show The Weekly Filibuster.[6] Three days later, on June 28, the Kentucky Libertarians voted unanimously to withdraw Landham's nomination, citing his comments were not in keeping with the party's platform and values.[7]
