I think with his SAT score and the fact he was a National Intel Science semi-finalist he would have gotten into 75% of the IVY schools. I think he would have had a harder time at MIT and CalTech as their SAT scores are always higher than the IVY leagues.
I would say no, based on what i've seen. A guy who I went to school with had a 1580 (this was 2001) SAT, straight A's, national merit scholar, went to the white house for some top students in America deal, gifted writer and artist, didn't get into Harvard, Yale or Princeton. Went to Northwestern
Another girl I knew, 176 out of 180 on LSAT, 3.91 grade point average, Sorority president, founded a charity for mental illness (brother was bi-polar) and was even Miss Orlando and runner up to Miss FL. Didn't get into 1 ivy league law school. Ended up going to Univ of Chicago, which is a great school but still. This is just my experience. I did have another friend, played football, white kid, 1300 SAT went to UPenn.
