And Who in the hell is on the cover of such skinny pathetic pamphlet ?

They should follow in to Flex mag footsteps featuring Arnold and Dorian on the cover recently ..

.....   sells could only get worse with current pros ...

WoooSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH

He put a woman on the cover... and had to rationalize why he did it. I don't remember what he said, but it was lame.

So it's turning into an Internet schmoe circle jerk forum with some youtube videos that attract a few thousand views. Great business there.

Call me an Ironager,  but the only way a bodybuilding mag can get few $$$   is pushing guys like Sergio,Serge,Lou frank,Dorian on the covers , with tons of pictorials ,and stories from the golden era ....they become instant treasure, collectors issue etc

The bodybuilding magazine business is quickly drying up.

I take it you're not a fan of fat Adina then.

No, I am not, and it is on both a business and personal level. She has single-handedly dismantled what took years to build over there and while we were considered equals with our respective positions at Brand X, she was able to do whatever the fuck she wanted with whoever the fuck she wanted regardless of the cost while I took it up the ass with no staff nor budget.

And I was the one that had prior experience and also was successful in my Brand X position, while she was not. Unfortunately due to a lawyer's gag order sent to me by Professor X when I was giving details of this on my website and radio show, I have to be coy with my posts.

My contention is if you have nothing to hide, then you don't need to have employees sign these type of forms before getting hired and then waive them in their face once they are no longer with the company.

Have to admit, his "Legend" series was a great way for him to go out, even though his demise is sad. That was an awesome idea. I have every one of those in sealed covers.

When Dave and John were running things, that magazine kicked ass. And Robbie kept the right formula there, as well. That outlaw mentality worked and the entire 'No Bull' attitude was a rallying cry for a fan base that felt the same way - bodybuilding is not pretty, so report it for what it is.

But it has not been the same for quite some time and this current issue seems to be that they are kind of at a crossroads. But the path that they have been on for a while has caused enough damage to their readership that putting a freak on the next cover will appear like a reach - and I know that the publishing industry is way ahead and that had already been decided long before the criticism of this issue was publicized.

Appearance is everything and the general public will be scrutinizing their next cover hard. The reason why this thread was started is a perfect example of that.

Bodybuilding mags were all around 80 pages in the 70s, didn't pass the 200 page mark until the mid 90s.  There was never any more information in them, just more ads.  I have over 2500 mags prior to 1993 but gave up collecting them when they became nothing more than supplement catalogues.

Ads are what makes a business successful and have to be a part of any magazine or website for it to turn a profit. You need to have a formula for pages in each and every issue regarding editorial versus ads and then use that as part of the equation that includes printing costs and - if your magazine is sold on newsstands - distribution.

So while it may have seemed if the additional pages were mostly ads, it was probably more like three or four out of 10.

More importantly, the editorial must be something worth reading. I had the chance to peruse through this Brand X "gem" at a Branes & Noble and it lacks in so many of the areas that made this publication the one to read years ago. In this case, one can judge a book by it's cliche-laden cover.

Bingo. They should have stayed as a team, but as soon as anyone gets kinda popular, they all wanna do their own thing. Bad mistake, look where it led them.

Had they stayed together, they would not be hurting as much, not to say I'd buy the mag anyway, just no information in there, we all know the stuff is ghost written, so what's the point?

Used to get motivated by pics, but they're all photoshoped so much now, meh...

It was a big loss when Robbie left.

Fuck, yeah. I was freelancing for them when Robbie was there and he wanted to bring me in for a more permanent role but Blechy blocked it. At the time, he did not allow the person in Robbie's position to form his own crew of people for the magazine, site and show coverage. (For some unknown reason, he has done so with the current online EIC.)

When Robbie left and went to FLEX, he brought me in and I was writing one feature and four columns every issue, as well as being part of their road crew. I only left to go to Brand X a year or so later because Blechy offered me double the money and their office was about a half hour ride for me.

Oddly enough, Robbie and I are working together again with him being a MuscleSport Magazine columnist. I have the utmost respect for Robbie and feel that he brings so much to the table in terms of intelligence and experience.

Blechman should have let Robbie run things as he knew what he was doing. He is a very hard worker and all round nice guy. I met him at the ny pro in 2009. Joined him a few others for breaky.

Hate to tell you this Joe but the magazine would still be in the same position even if Dave and John were around.  Simply put, printed publications are going the way of the dinosaur.  People nowadays read books on tablets because its more convenient and you can read a lot more.

All print publications from Playboy to Hustler to Ebony Magazine is in severe decline.  It won't disappear entirely but there's going to be a lot of nip and tuck in some areas.
