McCain will seek a sixth term

http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/arizona/politics/2015/04/03/senator-john-mccain-face-national-tea-party-battle/70871528/

"As U.S. Sen. John McCain readies his official announcement of a bid for a sixth term, national "tea party" organizations are stepping up their efforts to find a viable conservative opponent to challenge him in Arizona's 2016 Republican primary.

McCain, who will turn 80 before Election Day, has universal name recognition as a former GOP presidential nominee. But while he would have the advantages of incumbency, including an influential perch as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he also would have to convince the electorate that after more than 30 years on Capitol Hill he has not overstayed his welcome."

many people believe he experienced a major decline in mental function in 2008.

Specifically, on August 29, 2008.

While the voters of Arizona are free to choose whomever they want, I would point out two things:

First, it's pure insanity to have anyone to stay in power for that long - he was first elected to the Senate in 1987, so he's been here 28 years already. He was a Representative for four years, so he's got 32 years in active politics. John McCain doesn't have a monopoly on good ideas after all nor is he irreplaceable.

Second, his mother may still be alive and he may live to be over a hundred too. So what? Even the sharpest mind declines with age. Even if John McCain is mentally sharp as a tack today, will he be tomorrow? Or will he simply be an invalid that's fed mild farina and steamed carrots and told who to vote for?
