No back story here? Giraffe isn't really sporting game. Maybe a herd cull? Trying to give her the benefit of the doubt here.
Also, people don't seem to understand the economics of African big game hunting. The parks charge an exorbitant "trophy tax" on each animal killed. In the early 90's it was $30K USD for an elephant. All of that money goes into park maintenance and anti-poaching activities for the endangered animals.
Good feeling people don't want to hear this, but it was the worldwide ban on ivory that killed the black rhino forever. When the money from safe and humane harvesting of elephant stopped, so did all of the money to protect the black rhino. So, the black rhino died and ivory is still taken, now with small caliber machine guns and chainsaws and no revenue into the park.
