Eh, Warrant brought him in to play the Cherry Pie solo, I think.

Then you would love my mint condition '62 Strat (a real one) with hang tags still on it.

Yeah, I got a chuckle out of that one.

Back in the day it was rumored that his crappy solos were played by a studio musician and they were still crappy.

re: the original q -

Freebird, Sultans of Swing and Hotel California have great outro solos if you're talking classic rock, specifically.

Mr. Crowley and Tonight by Randy Rhoads have great outro solos if you're talking classic metal.

All great choices.

I remember back in 2002 or so... my band recorded a record, spent like $4000 back then, which was insane.

I went back into studio and redid all the lead guitar parts after my gutiarist left, and he never said anything.
And the audio engineer redid some of my bass parts cause I had no strong slap hand back then.

Good times!  I guess when you're young and you want the best product, people can put ego aside.

The outro solo is Mixolydian & it was played by Steve Lukather, as was the intro to Sweet Child O mine.

Slash tried to, but couldn't play those well enough, so they secretly asked Steve to do those.

Heard this direct from a semi inebriated Steve at a NAMM after party in 2001 & have no need to doubt him.

Just compare Slash's playing on the entire album & then to the outro solo. The outro is a HUGE step better in chops than anything Slash did or could do, technically at that point.

Interesting, sounds plausible enough.

Sorry, I love slash, he's my favorite guitarist every BY A MILE... I have 3 slash channels on Pandora, listen to him on the way to every show... I know lyrics to freakin' Snakepit songs lol....

Everything he's done outside GNR is plain boring. Take away his name, his past and his image and you'll think it's your average bedroom guitarist playing pentatonic till blue in the face. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's so damn generic.
__
To add something to the list of great outro solos:

Main starts at 04:21 and outro at 06:23.
Btw, it's also pentatonic. ;D

Comfortably Numb... Not even anything close.
Would have to definitely go with this. Definitely the most recognizable in Classic/Commercial Rock. I also love Floods.

I just learnt sultans of swing this week, it's actually very easy to play but knopfler has some feel to his music that's just magical.  I love guns n roses and can play pretty much every song,  sweet child of mind and November rain are great but a secret favourite I think has more soul is Don't Cry Tonight .

Yes it is, running through a BOSS ME50 (ancient equipment) a little of this, a little of that, but I seriously was trying to emulate Gilmour with chorus, reverb and a little delay... and the way he uses the bar....

He is too good for me. I'm better off with Van Halen.

Gilmour shapes notes like no other. Too much feeling that I just don't have. I'm a shredder I guess.

Or, maybe I need a few more years of maturity... everyone knows I can't grow up.... lol
