My guess is from the totality f the circumstances, Mom wasn't much of a mom..so kid doesn't care if she gets hurt, he thinks it's funny. He has no respect for women in general, probably due to his mom, so he doesn't care if his "girlfriend"gets hurt. I imagine he will be the funny loveable kid eveyone is surprised committed the armed robbery and got killed or killed someone n the next 2 years.
