This may actually benefit the patriots. If they can win a few games with the 2nd string quarterback, and stay in at least 2nd or 3rd place, then Brady starts to play, well, you have a healthy Brady midway through the season, not nearly as banged up from playing 17 games before the playoffs.

This is only the beginning. I'm sure the Patriots and Brady will both appeal. How can the league come out and say that Kraft and Belichick likely knew nothing, then go and take 2 draft picks and 1 million dollars from the team  

I thought this was about Brady? This was just the opening shot. They will likely have an expedited, arbitration hearing, where we will see if these penalties will hold up.

I think the penalties will be cut in half across the board.

brady actively participated in a coverup, and lied about knowing the Deflator, despite them having some long convo and lots of texts.

We can use the wording of the report 'probable', etc... but all know brady knew the balls were flatter, and he lied to the NFL about knowing the Deflator.  That's why he is suspended.  He lied to the commissioner/investigator and embarrassed the NFL.  He's luck it's only 4 games to be honest.

To the non-lawyer, the money quotes from the Ted Wells report suggest a mere probability that cheating occurred. But the specific terminology used by Wells actually indicates a belief that the evidence satisfies one of the most common standards used in a court of law.

“More probable than not” equates to a “preponderance of the evidence,” the standard that applies in most civil lawsuits. It means that the evidence makes it more likely than not, in the opinion of the investigator, that “New England Patriots personnel participated in violations of the Playing Rules and were involved in a deliberate effort to circumvent the rules,” and that “Tom Brady . . . was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities.”

That’s a standard perhaps even higher than the one that applies to players accused of violating the Personal Conduct Policy, where “credible corroborating evidence” (even without cooperation from the alleged victim) can result in a significant suspension. Regardless, it’s enough proof on which the NFL can base punishment of a team.

“Too often, competitive violations have gone unpunished because conclusive proof of the violation was lacking,” Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote to the NFL’s Competition Committee in 2008, after the last game-integrity infraction involving the Patriots.  “I believe we should reconsider the standard of proof to be applied in such cases, and make it easier for a competitive violation to be established.”

I'm not so sure that he thought the organization would get such stiff penalties. The report cleared Kraft and Belichick of any wrongdoing.

i'm certain the cheating started then, and it's been going on for almost a decade.  Four games for 7 years of flat footballs is a dream punishment.
