The mistake the anchorman makes is to assume that children shouldn't challenge or talk back to adults. The reality is that children do this all throughout their lives. It is an integral part of their growth and it's how they develop their own sense of self. The role of the adult, in turn, is to teach the child how to better cope with adversity in ways which do not compromise their well being or lead them towards litigious situations.

That said, if the mother of this child would have prepared him to better cope with adversity, he wouldn't have resorted to racially-charged terms.

On the flip side, this is a grown man assaulting a child. He should be sent to prison.

I never challenged adults as a kid and i kind of wish i did. I was always raised to basically assume guilt/fault for any issue involving myself and someone older. I talk to my parents about this since im grown now, and feel its really reinforced my issues of anxiety and lack of self confidence. So I do agree with you, i feel its important for kids to stand up for themselves, something i never really did.
