Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Mother's Day Post
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:51:00 PM »
Cool Mother's Day story… early am flight and I'm sitting across from my mom, when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says, "Son, I can't believe the life I have… grandma and grandpa would be so proud". I asked her, "Are you happy ma?". Just then the flight attendant placed my mom's breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, "Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me". She bursts into tears and says, "Yes, son I couldn't be happier". This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii because we couldn't afford the weekly $180 rent. At this moment I'm shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;), because she just told me she's happy. And y'all know when our parents tell us they're happy, it's so satisfying for us, because it means we've done a good job for them as their kids. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing deserving mama's out there. And Happy Mother's Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic. #EnjoyBreakfastMom #GratefulTears #TryNotToCryInTheEggs

Moral of the story is if your mother doesn't travel on a private jet then your a failure as a son.

A bit disrespectful for a serious and touching thread like this.

That being said: Would.

meanwhile all over the world parents are able to provide shelter for their kids and not the other way around.
even in the animal kingdom.
but some people are apparantely unable to do what even a bird mother does. thats some big time underachiving right there.

I like Dwayne but....

He's been milking this "I was so poor" sympathy cow for sometime now...He's been well off for a very long while and he needs to let it go...it's not like he was an orphan in India or shizzo in Florida.

Secondly...am I suppose to feel sorry for his mum? She's wearing a solid gold watch with diamonds on the bezel....I'm 36 and been busting my ass since 16 and just about bought myself a half gold watch, you don't see me crying over a plate of croissants.

Something tells me the rock is fake as hell like the majority of these celebs but of course, people eat it all up

A friend of mine spent an evening with and around him and said he's just genuine, nice and down to earth.

I like the guy, he looks like he's loving life. Good for him.

Ok, we get the picture. You have bought a shitty, two-tone GMT and lust after a diamond encrusted, solid gold, horological monstrosity.

Do you believe he's going for sympathy? Or maybe that he's trying to inspire someone in a tough spot?

I don't think he's going for sympathy...but being the "people's champ" and popularity online translates into $$$$ in his industry....I do feel he knows that well and chooses carefully what to post and his choice of words to enhance that image.

He does seem like a good guy tbf.
He keeps out of trouble and it seems that everyone who has met him, has nothing but good things to say.

I doubt it is a sympathy, more a reminder where he was and appreciation for everything he has achieved. Why going public? As much as it sounds corny, he might inspire some young kids to pursue their dreams.

Do you own/buy other brands? I'm Rolexed out now, next piece will have to be something else, thinking of a plain steel AP royaloak (not the bulky offshore ones) or alange sohne and JL have a couple of models of interest to me.

I guess it could be interpreted either way, out to the world to inspire or out to world to gain popularity...a bit like Obama coming to Ireland and takes pictures drinking Guinness to appeal to the white Irish voters back home. Or George Bush trying to cuddle a black baby, but the baby was having none of it and the subtle look of disgust on dubyas face he failed to hide was undeniable.

Not an expert but I like some of Stuhrling watches, such as this one. Looks great IMO. I have a similar looking model but a bit cheaper than this one which is about 2 1/2 grand I believe.

i had an ap roo,was to big and bulky for me so got rid of it after about a month,Im big into rolex. The ap royal oak is a beauty.the watch i interested in now is a ss 116680 yachtmaster ii might be to big like the ap though.I also like the omega speedmaster line.Jl has some great looking watches as well as patek but those are to pricey for me.I venture out occasionally but always come back to rolex, something about it just feels right. The daytona being my alltime favorite watch and will be back on my wrist by june.im big into no date watches hence the 116520,116680 and the 114060 which is due back on my wrist as well,im a serial watch flipper.
