Anyone remember this gym equipment?
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:01:08 AM »
Trying to recall the name of it..

Plate loaded machines (some models similar to Hammer Strength design) that allowed you to overload the negative portion of the rep.  For example, on the preacher curl you could load 100 lbs* on it and curl with 60lbs of weight on the positive portion, but the negative portion would be the full 100 lbs.  Anyone remember the line?

*100 lbs is just an example for the  15" pipe cleaners that are prominent in the gyms today.

There was also a company Mentzer modeled for that had those smith machine style machines that had a pedal arrangement weight release that you could do negatives with, but I don't remember the name. They were interesting, never actually seen one in the wild.

I seem to recall strive only changing the strength curve and not allowing you to overload the negative.

Yeah, that's what they do. I have a couple of Strive pieces that I bought on CL in my garage gym and theyre good but don't overload the negative

AFAIK only Nautilus made machines that did that, like their crazy Duo Squat
