I answered the question about hoodies and my answer was not that it was to stop people from bothering me but just last night- at the start of my workout- an older guys comes up to me and asks why I always do pull-ups with my legs raised, what I was working doing that. Then another guy who I believe ;had just joined asked me if the gym had a certain piece of equipment, then I ran into one of the PTs whom I hadn't seen in a while and we shot the shit for a little while. Not big deals, but the gym is an inherently social place. You see the same people every day and you have one obvious common interest. I didn't want to be rude, but it did bother me that I wasted like 10 minutes on small talk with the PT when my goal is to get in and out of the gym in about 60 min.
In reference to what I did say about a hoodie being like blinders, there is always someone staring at me. Some of it is because I'm in decent shape, but some of it is just the layout of the gym and it is crowded sometimes. Like I actually did say, hoodies help me to focus on my workout.
Many moons ago I competed as a track sprinter and YES, I wore a hoodie sometimes to warm up.
I learned from the experienced sprinters to warm up gradually and ease into it.
Indoor track is during the colder winter months. I learned from this older guy who wore 3 sweat suits while warming up ( 1 hoodie as the last layer).
As he warmed up, he would strip off the outside layer, then the next and right before we went to the blocks he pulled off the hoodie. I tried it and it helped keep me loose.
I know baseball pitchers use layers on their arms/shoulders to stay warm between innings.
