Yup - he has no need for....
- ABS (True sports cars do not have this actually)
- Run Flat Tires (pointless)
- Airbags (pointless really.  Ruins the steering wheel.  The steering wheel on my 1960 Plymouth Fury was a piece of art)
- Crumple zones (the reason cars look like shit today is because of these)

Here's what happens when TA's 1960 Plymouth Fury has a head on collision with a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu with pointless airbags and crumple zones.  Which car would you rather be driving?

That front end works on some of their lineup (4 series, new x3/5) but not on the 7. It looks awkward and lacks the brute solidity of the last gen

I'm looking for a new car but a 7 is way too big and clunky - undecided between the upcoming c450AMG, a m235i, hold on for next years 435i with the new engine, or wait until 2017 for the new S4

a stripper m4 would be fun too but I'm no getbig CEO so $50k's the limit

BMW M2 is coming, roughly around that price range. It has the M3/M4's suspension underpinnings

nice, hopefully that doesn't end up like the m1 and be unavailable/unaffordable by the time I can get one

2 door is a bit of a downer, I'd ideally get the RS3 if they release that here in hatch form, but I cant see VAG ever doing anything so sensible or pricing it at $50k either :(

Can you expand a little on what makes the BMW better.  People on here seem to think the S class is a way better car than the 7 series, but in my opinion it's an apples and oranges comparison in terms of what the cars were designed to do.  What makes the BMW engine better than the Mercedes?

Mercedes and AMG def has a thing to say about "nothing beats a BMW engine"

Maybe in the past but today BMW motors are good but they aren't anything special or better than Mercedes

Mercedes new 4.0 AMG twin turbo v8 is a gem and IMO no BMW motor matches that a long with their 5.5 v8 turbo and the now defunct 6.2. They are easily modded too unlike the BMW motors and BMW's been having problems with their turbo motors for some time and still do

Mercedes "old dinosaur engine" v12 in the Pagani Zonda and Huayra is mind blowing  :o

Even their new  m3 motor is blah imo

Of course there are outliers.

But dollar for dollar, BMW give you a helluva lot more car than MB.

I think the styling of the Benz is probably superior. However, it is an innate, guttural issue with the two. When I get into my BMW even though it is a 4-door coupe essentially compared to a 2-door convertible, it feels faster, tighter response with steering, and your connection with the road is superior. The Benz is awesome but it just doesn't feel as tight on the road. To be fair to Bevo, I have yet to drive a S550 but it is an amazing looking vehicle.

I think that although the MB and BMW have similar HP, and despite the MB has more torque than the BMW, the BMW just feels quicker. It may be because the BMW has an 8-speed automatic vs the 7-speed automatic in the Benz. The 0-60 times for both are mid 4's which isn't too shabby. I love both cars, but I think C&D and R&T need to get the new BMW 7 series and pit it against the S550 to see if BMW has caught up or surpassed their Bavarian counterpart. Personally, it is almost would you rather take out Scarlet Johansson or Megan Fox; can't say either is a bad choice  ;D ;D ;D

Out here a Benz CLA 250 AMG costs just over $100k. Looks lovely but with a 1.8 liter engine, it's a dissapointing drive.

You could get a 328i M Sport for $30k less, not as pretty. Much faster & better feel for the road plus free service for 100k km. or a bit more for a 528i.

Just drive equivalently priced cars, the MBs look nicer but drive like a Honda Accord .

Benz CLA AMG 45 has AWD and 360 hp from a 2 liter turbo engine, and people rave about it. One of the highest horsepowered 4 cylinders on the market. And mid 4s 0-60. And believe lighter than the 328i M sport.

Care to elaborate on this one? Cause it's not true anymore

BMW is not where it once was anymore

Mercedes right now is king of the Germans. Good products and good F1 team

Not a huge merc fan fo the small sedan market, but the c450AMG looks like it might be a solid choice

with the 340 and 440 coming out with the new BMW engines and hopefully steering (please) both BMW and benz have some serious horsepower now in the $50k section

lol that Lexus and Infiniti are promising 100HP more than the germans, for slower estimated 0-60 times

I own 2 of 'em - one's a SUV that I drive here and there when hauling the dogs or occasionally the boat around, and the other is a coupe that I usually drive if I'm going more than a few miles away from home.

Well I would - but looking  the above car, it's ahead of the 328i M Sport but behind the M3 - but the M3 is $12k more.

So I think this might just be a Thailand thing. Out here the CLA 250 AMG has a 1.8 liter engine compared to 2.0 liter in the states. Not sure why but it could be down to different approaches to import duties out here. The CLA 250 AMG is a more beautiful car than the 328i M sport out here but the 328i M Sport pisses all over it performance wise without additional cost.

Go for an M5 out here and you are looking at US$300k.

All the MBs I test drove out here were real pups performance wise but also in terms of road feel. I suspect if I was in the US, I may be driving an MB instead of a BMW 5.
