Has bodybuilding made you stronger, healthier?
« on: June 11, 2015, 09:46:55 AM »
Most of us initially took interest in bodybuilding because we thought bodybuilders had ideal bodies.  Eventually, we learned that wasn't necessarily the case.  A bodybuilder isn't superhuman, and in many cases may be weak and unhealthy.  Ironically, when a bodybuilder is on stage, at his 'best', he may be near death.

After learning the truth, many of us persisted nonetheless.  While we may have little need for 'physical perfection', we strive for it anyway, often focusing on looks, just like professional bodybuilders.

All things considered, do you think this pursuit makes you stronger, or is it a symptom of a weakness (vanity?) you can't overcome?

To offer my own opinion, I often worry about being to inflexible, choosing an overly restrictive lifestyle (can't miss workouts, eat a certain way, etc.), despite not believing I truly need to do these things.

I often see my 'bodybuilding' activities as self harming, and continually struggle to make them healthier.
