SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) --
The Santa Ana Police Chief addressed a controversial marijuana dispensary bust, including allegations that ate least one of the officers at an edible pot product.

Surveillance video captured the raid, which shows officers inside an unlicensed marijuana dispensary.

In the video, the female officers are allegedly talking about kicking Marla James, an amputee who volunteers at the Sky High Collective. She is legally blind and said several medical issues keep her confined to a wheelchair.

She said she plans to sue the city.

On Friday, Santa Ana Police Chief Carlos Rojas addressed the video and the allegations against his officers.

"We're here to provide public safety services to the community with professionalism and integrity and that hasn't changed," he said.

Rojas said an internal investigation is underway. James' lawyer told Eyewitness News that he believes the video shows other misconduct, including officers playing darts and eating an edible.

Rojas said he wants to see the unedited video first, but doubts the product was a marijuana edible.

"I have a great deal of trust and confidence in our officers, but I do realize we have to do our due diligence," he said.

Members of the Santa Ana City Council said they stand by the chief and trust he will take appropriate action to make sure these issues are resolved.

The chief said it should take about a month to complete the internal investigation.

Dick cops. Gang mentality. Everyone trying to out-douchebag everyone else. Surprised they didn't shoot that quadraprligic and  say she tried to  run them over

That gang mentality helps them have each others backs even when they are wrong.

I would be more outraged at an illegal drug house in my neighborhood than a cop who talks dumb about people who aren't around them.

Was there a legally justified reason for them destroying the video/audio equipment?

If you or me walk into a cop's house and smash his equipment, we go to prison.

if a cop does it, at worst, he enjoys a paid suspension?

Pretty much. But I believe its called "Administrative Leave."

Cops investigating themselves, is like a food place administering its own health inspection, then giving themselves an "A" rating.  :D

It wasn't a home. They had a legal search warrant to be there. They'll say that they needed the equipment to justify more crimes. That might fly, it might not. We all know it's bullshit. But the cops aren't randominfly breaking in homes and smashing shit

they ate pot brownies.  They used drugs on the job while stealing from citizens they are sworn to protect.

if a walmart employee steals using my credit card, he goes to jail.
if an airline pilot uses drugs while on duty, he's going to jail.

In this case, the cop stole AND used drugs while on duty.  And a year from now, he'll still be a cop, still raiding places, just working on looking for cameras a bit more.

This is where we agree. I bet the cop who ate the brownie will get the most discipline of them all. Kicking the shit out of people is ok, but don't be stoned while doing it

Agnostic007 will soon be here to defend them. "They needed to eat the pot brownies because they were hungry and cops dont take lunch because we work so hard" or "Cops have a very stressful job, so they had to destroy the equipment to release their anger."

Always an excuse. Pigs covering for pigs.

This has always baffled me. There needs to be a separate.... probably civilian panel that investigates possible wrong doing by cops ( and no not IA). Its quite ridiculous actually that this is considered good practice.

Yes. And as I stated above, its like a restaurant conducting its own health inspection, then giving themselves an "A" rating. But we all know its not how it works. An outside health inspector (usually someone who works for the city or state) conducts the inspection.

They even do this when you're seeking to conduct research. Before conducting research, you need to submit your  research to an IRB (Institutional Review Board). The IRB determines if the research is ethical. The IRB usually contains a mixture of scientists, academics, and "ordinary" people to review your study. They purposely put people who are not scientists on the IRB board to ensure that scientists/academics are not just allowing any research to occur (even if its unethical). This helps avoid any bias.

There needs to be something similar--where civilians are part of the investigation process.
