I caught an extreme sport documentary CNBC yesterday and thought it was most amusing to put these activities up there with BASE jumping and proximity flying...haha. Fucking media.
These goofy mud races are for corporate bores who want to get "extreme" on the weekends.  New age hipsters.  You want a tough workout...I got one for you, it's called the Croatchathon.  You workout for 20 years, then blast posers from the gym on getbig, and in the end not one shit was given...haha
It's actually called the Croatch 6000.  It's where you lift solid weight for 6000 days.  Oh...you did the p90x for 3 month...bravo fuckbag...bravo.  I always marvel at these weekend marathoners.  They lose 5lbs of fat and people want to build them a statue.
Regurgitate topic #4.

You also forgot, grope girls asses while helping them over the wall.  Per 3338886 of course.   :D

These seem to be the sorts of things that lots of fat people who just started working out do to make it seem like they are in good shape, sort of like the 5'4" 200-lb woman who "runs" a marathon.

If they enjoy it though then that's great.

I agree.

I used to be a member of the internet group of recreational runners called , The Penguin Brigade.
The main philosophy of the group was to simply do the best you could, on your own terms.
It was supposed to be all about PERSONAL running goals, regardless of how slow you ran.

Sadly, I learned that many of them wanted the same kind of recognition as the actual winners.
I'm a slow distance runner and never felt the need for anyone else to applaud my plodding.

Facebook, instagram , etc all prove at how superficial many personal fitness "warriors" are.
If it really is about one's PERSONAL satisfaction, why do they need to shout about to the world? ???

People do this with everything now, not just this stuff.  You'll just have to accept it.

No they are not.

They are for people who want to either have fun or challenge themselves.

I shouldn't have included all. You're right. It's for people who want to pretend they are in the military for a day, people who want to have fun; and those of course that want to challenge themselves. I stand corrected.

You're still wrong.  I've been to a bunch, some with over 5000 racers in a single day, and I've never seen ONE person pretending to be in the military, or anything remotely of the sort.  What I HAVE seen is actually military personnel participating in the event, helping others, and apparently enjoying the challenge.  I've also seen a lot of support for the military (especially at Tough Mudder) and read about donations being made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

I've also seen actual military represented at exhibition booths - marines, army etc. I participated in marine pull up challenge after the last event - got a t-shirt which was given out for 20 pull ups.  But again, never seen anyone pretending to be in the military - I don't think the military actually trains by a lot of the obstacles there anyway.

But you seem really intent on forcing your own warped perceptions of what's going on.  Keep believing that.  Or, actually participate in one and find out for yourself - they have easy ones you could probably finish.

"GoRuck" has a much stronger claim to the "pretending to be an Enlisted badass" generalization than Tough Mudder/Spartan/etc.

It's also 20x harder than those things.

But it's run by ex-military and a lot of participants are the same.

Your'e a real jerk off. I ran track in high school and college as a sprinter. Even though I was a sprinter I could string together several sub 5:30miles. Yes there are obstacle courses in the military; even in basic. I guess you have never been on a bases where there is basic and elite training. I spent 6 months on a military base running through their obstacle course every day during PT. Many people who do them are thinking they are doing the equivalent of military training living out their fantasy of being a soldier for a day.

Yes sorted out the Men from the boys :D I shit my pants on the high obstacles but you gotta do it... lot of injuries too as i remember. The Log runs and Battle pt were also good. Carrying ammo boxes that were weighted and ripping your hands to pieces.. still i suppose it was all good for us... ;D.

Now you've expanded from making incorrect assumptions about the events to making incorrect assumptions about me.

Sub 5:30 miles are excellent.   You doing all that PT on an actual base is excellent.  You should utilize this and do an event, so you can educate yourself and be able to have knowledge about what you're saying.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/woman-loses-sight-in-eye-after-mud-run/?ftag=YHF4eb9d17

Quote
A young woman went blind in one eye within 24 hours after catching a flesh-eating bacteria during a mud run in Dallas this month.

"My eye started hurting, like maybe I've got mud or some debris in there," Brittany Williams, who finished her first mud run two weeks ago, told CBS DFW. "When I opened my eye, it was just like white. The whole room was white."

Williams said the debris cut her eye, allowing flesh-eating bacteria to destroy her cornea. "It just completely melted off of my eye."

A mother with two jobs but no health insurance, Williams spent a week in the hospital. She now owes $100,000 in medical bills.

"I've had health insurance before and I never used it. I never went to the doctor and I just spent lots of money for nothing. So I didn't see the point at the time when we couldn't afford it," said Williams.

Her family is raising money through a GoFundMe account for further treatment to prevent the bacteria from spreading throughout Williams' body.

"You don't think you're going to go to the doctor and someone's gonna say you owe $3,000 for eye drops," said Williams, who compared her experience to a horror movie.

Flesh-eating bacteria (necrotizing fasciitis) is a bacterial skin infection that enters the body through a wound such as a cut, scrape or bite. Once the bacteria gets into the bloodstream, it spreads quickly and can destroy skin, fat and tissue around muscles. Such harmful effects can be caused by a number of bacteria including E.coli and Staphylococcus. It usually impacts people with a weakened immune system, although otherwise healthy individuals can develop infections, too.

Despite her painful ordeal, Williams has remained optimistic.

"Even though people go through horrible things, I make the best of it. Because there's no point in sitting and sulking, because it's just going to make the rest of my days miserable," she said.

There's a chance Williams could eventually regain her vision with surgery. However, she says several local doctors have denied her treatment since she lacks insurance.

This does happen, they stopped "the Dell" training at Woolwich or so i heard because people came down with skin problems. "The Dell" was a rancid stinking pit where you crawled through. Did all sorts of nice things to beast you there. I enjoyed it actually. was not funny at the time but was an experience.

1st , doing 20 USMC approved pull ups is damn good.
2nd, these tough mudder events seem like wholesome, fun events.

3rd,  I did it when I was younger in the USMC,  got thru without any problems, but I didn't think it was fun.

Running down a road , track or treadmill is enjoyable for me. Doing pull ups is the gym is fun.
Dealing with mud ,heat and water at the same time as exercising, isn't fun for me.

BUT, to each his own and any exercise regime is good in my book.

To think people pay for it now...the experience i suppose is worth it. I do understand why people do it. I mean you get people over here who pay money to drive a Tank. Was it fun if you did it as a soldier? not really.. i still understand people who want to try it.

Let's keep in mind about 10-20% of the people posting on this very forum pay hundreds to thousands of dollars per year to repetitively lift heavy iron weights for years on end.

It's a completely different experience when you're in the military.
Why? You don't have a choice, you don't go home after. It' your life , NOT some weekend party event.

LOL, it's like going on a prison tour vs being a convicted inmate. :o
