Where I live things like this are being put up in parks and down the seafront. They didn't see much use at first but I see people on them all the time now.

It's def nice to workout outside, but will it become popular, other than in places like Venice with a strong health culture & warm climate?
There's some 'urban fitness' equipment in my area, but I see no one using it, even when I pass by on a sunny Saturday..

They can be popular in the warmer months.
Why don't you go down there and be the first, and invite some friends?

How dare you try to get Americans to work out by putting exercise equipment in parks? This is not some socialist country. If American don't want to work out, don't be shoving exercise equipment in their face. Remember when Michelle Obama gave a speech to a bunch of kids about eating healthy? Parents complained, saying she was trying to make their kids eat healthy and dictating parenting. If these parents want to feed their kids junk food all day long and not educate them about nutrition, that is their right as an American. And now youre coming in here and trying to put exercise equipment in parks? Brainwashing kids into exercising! I think you should not dictate parenting! And heaven forbid the parents get on the exercise equipment!

I think one problem is intimidation and prospective embarrassment. People that know nothing of training may have no clue how to use the stuff. And the public nature can discourage trying.

A few people doing it right for others to witness can kick things off.

It's a bad idea. Putting exercise equipment in parks will just cause muscular Hebrews to congregate and scare away white folk. FFS, Kali Muscle might show up, looking like a glazed chocolate donut.

It's on a walking route that I like to walk every know or then or more often during a cutting period. I like to perform some dips, about the only true body weight exercise (apart from push ups or squats) you can do at this place. There are no bars or racks other than a dip bar, so it's pretty limited.
Call me spoiled but I prefer a well equipped gym, plus it's often raining here (Northern Europe climate)

Many of the equipment have instructions posted with them. If a person cannot follow the instructions or with some equipment use common sense, might need to be embarrassed.
But, as you said, a few people doing it right, can start a chain reaction.

lol
And the gym rats scare the same people away.

It's my right to not be fit, so don't push me to do so!!! And especially don't use taxpayer dollars to put these contraptions in parks!!!

We have a 6 or 7 pieces of that equipment stretched out over 1-1.5 miles at a park here in TX.
You can get a pretty good full body workout and cardio by running between each piece of equipment.
Not too many people utilize the equipment though. I've only heard people complain about how dirty they perceive the equipment being

then they can bring a towel.
It might be better to have the equipment in a group, like have them right next to the kids equipment.

Let me clarify. Will it last outside through all the months, rain, sleet, snow, heat and cold, and 100-400 pound people who say "watch this!!!", for years to come?
