The ibm-704 cost 1mil per mb when it first came now i can buy a tb for under 200 that can fit in my mom's changepurse. Things need a starting point

This isn't really a "starting point" as much as it's an expensive marketing gimmick harnessing a decades-old science-class experiment.

Show me a hoverboard that works on a normal street and I don't care if the battery lasts 3 seconds, I will be impressed.

it doesn't need to work on the street, the can easily build parks with metal laced flooring that allow this to be used. no different than any niche sport that requires a specialized grounds and equipment(golf, sailing, crew, polo, anything with horses)

It is also encouraged to include a few mandatories. It doesn't the have to be the FDB "widowmaker".
