It's over for us. I may drive out to Appomattox this weekend and see if there are protests there. If they shut down the Museum of The Confederacy, and remove all of the Confederate Monuments, it will be like they're making it so it never existed. Removing all proof. Minister Goebbels would be proud...

You can only blame the white supremacists for appropriating the Confederate Battle Flag as their own.

Remember, southern local and state governments did not start using the flag until the mid 60s as a direct response to the Civil Rights Act

If the museum is removed, all of its contents should be placed in another museum of history.

The Holocaust Museum in Washington still stands.

Neither should be forgotten about.

How many monuments are there in Europe glorifying the NAZIs ?  Losers in wars generally don't get monuments.

We aren't Europe genius.

I guess you never heard of the Confederate Memorial at Arlington and how it came to be or the thousands upon thousands of Confederate Memorials in the United States.

The Confederate Memorial at Arlington was created immediately after the war to help heal a nation.  The thousands upon thousands of Confederate Memorials (not throughout the United States, but almost all in the south) were create by and for white supremacists as a reaction to the overturning of Jim Crow laws and later the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Do you not think maybe these attitudes were cause by a brutal occupation force for decades after the war?  If only Lincoln hadn't been assassinated.

No.  Not at all.   They did not like being forced to share and/or compete with people they saw as less than human.

this might help  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/struggle_court.html

also might want to look up the history of lynching

You are talking of the Northern view of Blacks correct?

Like in Illinois, Indiana, and Oregon and several other states where it was a crime for any black to even set foot in the state.

When the Civil War ended, 19 of 24 Northern states did not allow blacks to vote. Nowhere did they serve on juries before 1860. They could not give testimony in 10 states, and were prevented from assembling in two. Several western states had prohibited free blacks from entering the state. Blacks who entered Illinois and stayed more than 10 days were guilty of "high misdemeanor." Even those that didn't exclude blacks debated doing so and had discriminatory ordinances on the local level.

No they weren't genius.

No one is talking about removing battlefield memorials.  But renaming highways and buildings named after confederate politicians, generals, grand wizards, etc.

and all those laws were overturned by the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments.  But then Jim Crow (ie apartheid) laws came along, mostly in the south.  what's your point?

My point is that the North hated blacks more and did not allow them any opportunity to do anything.  They could not own land, no jobs were available, they were not allowed to practice any kind of trade.

In the South, some of the most wealthy plantation owners were blacks even.  Some of the best and most talented craftsman were blacks.  Blacks shared houses with whites in the South, farmed the land together, grew up together.

In the North, their throats were just cut or were beaten to death in alleyways and driven out.  If you were black, the North would have been the place you would want to avoid.

To this day, Boston is still considered to be the most racist place in all of America.
