the topic at hand is whether governments should no longer celebrate the Confederate Flag because it is also a symbol of white supremacy.

the swastika was originally a symbol from ancient India.  But too bad.  It is now forever associated with NAZI atrocities.

The Confederate Memorial at Arlington was created immediately after the war to help heal a nation.  The thousands upon thousands of Confederate Memorials (not throughout the United States, but almost all in the south) were create by and for white supremacists as a reaction to the overturning of Jim Crow laws and later the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
