Question About Dreams
« on: July 01, 2015, 08:19:14 PM »
Can anyone here throw a decent punch in a dream?

I have NEVER been able. It's always a super heavy, slo-mo "push" every single time, even when I forget I can't throw one beforehand. And every male I've ever asked says the same thing: can't punch.

Now, I don't buy all the psychobabble dream analysis crap, but there HAS to be something to this one.

Right?

It's not a dream, this is proof we all live in the Matrix.

It's  because you doubt your punching abilities.

Not really helpful, guy. Just want to know if others experience this.

Same here. Everytime I throw a punch in my dreams my fist slows down and I am unable to make contact. Weird, huh?

I think it's the same for most. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's the same with running. I have had dreams I am back playing ball and can't freaking move any faster than slo-mo...
I have no science to base this on but I always figured it was because you are lying down and when your brain gives the signal to punch or run or whatever - your arms and legs are restricted from that  motion. So even though it's a dream you subconscious mind recognizes the dilema..

Don't try to DO stuff in dreams.

This is important, if you can take a step backward and just let the dream unfold it can be really amazing.

Exactly. Wasn't gonna address it unless someone else brought it up. What the fuck is that? We can fly, but we can't punch or run.

Of course. But when some dreampunk starts talking his dreamshit, I gotta sort his ass out.

(Never do, though. The fucked up slo-mo punches just piss 'em off more.)

Hahaha yes. Or a weapon I'll be using will turn to rubber as I swing.

On the flip side I sometimes have dreams where I beat people to death.

It's all very odd.

Dreams always have the same pattern:

You dream. Something really weird occurs in the dream. You realise at this point "I must be dreaming". You wake up at this very moment. You go back to sleep and attempt to continue your dream.

In my dreams I'm always able to fight off multiple attacks.   I never kill anyone but in my dreams I never lose the fight.   Most of the time I'm trying to get away from the fight but when I do fight I'm pretty lethal without killing anyone.

I know the feeling very, very well :-\  I can't punch for shit in a dream.  In a similar vein, anytime I try to run, it's like I've got a freight train stapled to my ass.  I also struggle to lift even little kiddie weights.  It's as if I have the strength to complete the motion ten times over, but I just can't generate any speed whatsoever.  You nailed it with "slo-mo."

I dunno.  It certainly doesn't/needn't mean anything specific -- say, like, you have this subconscious fear of being a pussy, or that you can't hit someone effectively.  I chalk most of this kind of stuff up to our minds just unwinding, dealing with anxiety and stress in a way that we don't have to while we're conscious.

Hope that makes sense.

Do you really realize you are dreaming while you are.dreaming? I always hear people say this but I have never once been able to do that... In fact I often wake up and it takes a few minutes to realize that whatever just happened was only a dream.

This reminds me of the time Uncle Edward asked me if I'd ever had a nocturnal emission.

This is so strange but its the same exact thing in my dreams. it always turns into this slow motion type push when I do make contact. I always thought it was just me and very odd as to why I always dream it that way
