How do you "switch off" after work
« on: July 15, 2015, 02:49:56 AM »
I hate taking work home with me.

I find a glass or two of a fine red usually does the trick.

Have built a home gym in the summer house, so soon as I get back, I pop 20mg dbol, read to the kids (from getbig's best quotes thread) and then lift weights with the Mrs.

In the summer, I unwind with a kung fu battle with my son in our pool.

You have to learn how to turn it off by not worrying about things you cannot control and taking action on things you can control.

I've worked as an Engineering Consultant for 15+ years.  It gets stressful working on large complex projects all the time.  Many times i'm hired to find flaws in a design or find a way to engineer it cheaper.  This can be hard on me.

Years ago i had serious anxiety issues.  Today i've learned to let go of things i cannot control and just focus on doing things i can control, do the best you can on what you have control over.  When you are always ahead of the game, you feel better and rarely feel like you left something behind.

If that doesn't work.  Drugs.

As soon as i get home, i usually grab my pipe and put on my red smoking jacket and slippers, and sit in front of the fireplace, either just contemplating the day or reading a good book and drinking some wine.

Or i sit myself on the couch and watch American History X, that usually makes me calm and tranquil after a stressful day.

If you have a stressful job thattakes over your mind when home then activities that provide a form of escapism are good.

Video games if you're into them
Movies or series like GOT with a good Belgian blonde on the side (beer that is unless there's a hot Belgian blonde near by)
Gym sesh especially cardio

Activities to avoid after work:

Browsing Getbig
Watching Liveleak, world star and the likes
The pathetic and shallow lives of instagrammers
Watching the news

I never 'switch it off'... most of my waking hours are devoted to my work, if not physically, I'm thinking about it.
