Racism on the forum

I just liked the wild west aspect of Getbig and by definition some of that will be now lost. It's hard to see how one can fairly elevate one particular type of discourse to "unacceptable" without allowing for a fair hearing for other types of potentially offensive discourse. The Pandora's Box cannot be closed.

The forum does have it's own form of censorship: stupid, repetitive and shit threads are ruthlessly mocked along with stupid, repetitive and shit posters. Until this very moment, this was sufficient. It's hard to see how TA's latest changes that. Just bundle hit shit into a thread called "TA's Racist Shit" and let it stew in its own juices. Fuck it, if my threads don't pass the racist-purity smell-test, jam mine in there too.

An unfortunate reality check is that -- in the USA at least --racism is in the upswing on both sides. One can argue which is the chicken and which the egg, but you cannot argue that the tensions are high. And that is news, hence its needed inclusion on the G&O.

Maybe, by letting go of censorship and letting the marketplace of ideas prevail here on Getbig, we can set a course for the rest of the nation.

Individual posts that have racial undertones, as always, are typically ignored and we don't do too much about that.

The problem becomes a bigger issue when a thread essentially becomes a KKK rally within itself and then I have an IFBB pro or two (yes, 2 IFBB pros) complain. I've had similar in the past done and once I review the stuff, I have to do something about it.

Nonetheless, we will still continue to be laxed. Just my "baby steps" approach to it is overly laxed. A guy has to do the same shit over 3 times, get 2 warnings in the process to then end up on a short 1-2 week vacation, of which he can then return from. That's as diplomatic and nice as you can be.

Racism doesn't bother me as much, although sometimes the pictures and videos can be a little much. Some of our guys also view the material from their workplace and many have had issues where their employers have tracked their computer use and literally printed some of these images and used it as material for complete expulsion.

It gets a little tricky my friend. We will try our best to be reasonable.

Oh, and if you are viewing Getbig from work without full knowledge of the potential downside, you probably deserve what you get. The only time I felt comfortable doing that was when the entire IT department rolled up into my org. Caveat emptor.

AJ ... GetBig is plenty entertaining and funny without the racist bs. No one is saying to get rid of all the things that make this place great. That separate us from a forum like Bodybuilding.com.

...and folks, just to be fair...

Although, we are simply starting with a basic clean up of the threads on the G&O, if ever a member becomes a repeat offender, I will start slow with a warning via PM, then if a second infraction occurs, it will then be followed by a public warning and if a third infraction occurs, then it will met with a 1-2 week ban.

Unless it's simply a gimmick account, everyone else will get the same courtesy.

Baby steps on this.. This kind of thing takes time to adjust to and a form of habitual desensitization needs to take place before we get a good flow going.

With that, this is Ron's forum. He sets the rules. A similar analogy: If you dont like your job, you quit. If people dont like the rules of getbig, they can find somewhere else to post.

To be honest, I really dont care about censorship on a bodybuilding forum. Why would anyone care? lol. I only care about censorship as it affects me in real life.

If I were to ban you, you would know, as I like to make it public, so that you have no doubts as to who it was. That said, no moderator here is required to make anything public or to disclose their actions. They have a right to enforce the rules as they see fit, based upon what has been established. Just as no poster is required to check with every single moderator before making a thread or posting in general, the moderators are not required to check with anyone before performing their duties.
