Baikoko


Baikoko is a costal dance found within the East African region of Tanga (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya).

Baikoko resembles the Swahili Chakacha dance, which features hip roll movements like singer Shakira and slow waist wine like carribean singer Rihanna. In swahili you may say "kata kiuno/viuno" which simply means to cut your waist.

Other East African dances such as the Somali niiko and the Malagasy kawitry dance shares its similarites with Baikoko.

The afro-arab Malaya / M'alayah (or معلايه ) dance is also very similar to Baikoko.

In Central Africa, Baikoko is similar to the Mutwashi/Mutuashi dance from Congo.

In West Africa, Baikoko is similar to the Mapouka dance from Cote d'Ivoire , the Sabar-Leumbeul dance from Senegal and the Funana from Cabo Verde.

In North Africa you may see similar dances in Morrocan chaabi chickat (or الشعبي)

In North America Baikoko relates closely to Tbombzian rabbit-twerking, a dance which was popularized by the twerk team along with pop singer Miley Cyrus, Tbombz Taylor and former teacher Jessica Vanessa.

Popular music videos such as Nick Minaj's "Anaconda" and Jennifer Lopez "Booty" (feat. Iggy Azelia) also contains a form of Baikoko dance.

"Twerking" is derived from an old Scotch- Irish dance form.

Ye olde pub wench would shake her butt cheeks on the heads of foamy beers to prepare 'em for drinking.

Went to Uganda back in May for a couple of weeks. Lovely people, but very rare to see 'hot' women. Sure there were naturally pretty girls, but just something about the way they present themselves is not very appealing.
