His wrist is too big for a day date solid gold Rolex..I'd say Seadweller Deepsea at 44mm would suit him better. The brushed links will fare better on scratches with dog lifestyle.

ya, it suks, I bought a bunch of watches before the 'wristclock' phase of giant watches came in. now there is even an oversize president rolex
