A Different Look At Disabled Folks, Including Vets
« on: August 02, 2015, 04:45:27 PM »
"Most stories about veterans focus on the difficult challenges many face, from unemployment and homelessness to the fact that more troops are living with severe injuries that ever before. But a new photo series focuses on their strength instead. The former soldiers pictured in the slide show above may be missing limbs, but they're also amazingly fit, resilient, and moving on with their lives." http://www.fastcoexist.com/3049049/these-powerful-and-hot-photos-of-amputee-veterans-show-strength-not-tragedy?utm_source=ps%20outbrain&utm_medium=paidcm&utm_campaign=ps101coexist&utm_content=coexist&cid=ps101coexist#5

Update: While the focus was intended to be on disabled vets, other folks who have faced similar challenges deserve recognition too.

Who knows? It was on a news page link that I just happened on and thought is was interesting. There are also bodybuilders who are amputees or otherwise physically disabled. One has to admire someone whose overcome these huge obstacles and moved forward with their lives rather than wallowing in self pity.

most people don't have tens of thousands of $$ for that kind of hardware. Most people just get a tap on the back and a free hat. You were saying about self pity?

and secondly..

Those fellows are all disabled vets with obvious disabilities. There are many more disabled vets whose disabilities aren't so visual but no less traumatic.

I removed your secondly because it is completely uncalled for.

More recent fully disabled vets in the U.S. have full access to "expensive" hardware, professional medical attention, pharmaceuticals and ongoing treatments. Perhaps it is different where you are. I am not saying these things are necessarily handed to them, they need to know how get what they need in a fairly complicated system. If they don't ask, they are often out of luck.

As a counterpoint to your suggestion that these guys are all gay, which in not relevant anyway. I'm posting some photos of disabled folks who may or may not be vets. As to their sexual preferences, I didn't ask.  ;)

Thank god all these poor draftees are getting helped.  Conscripted to fight and lose limbs in useless corporate wars!

Moron, amputees have it much easier.  Less sets and training they have to do.  Someone without legs never has to ever do legs.  Someone without an arm never has to work that arm.

The leg press must be incredibly easy with one leg of titanium and one regular leg.

One might think you envy these folks. Are you saying you have it much harder?

Yes.  You have to work much harder in the gym.  Why would you work legs if you had two prosthetics?  What would be the point?  ???

So this is your way of reassuring yourself and making yourself feel better in that you are glad to not be one of them.

I see what you are doing.
