I was figuring this had to be the case, but didn't see the gofundme link until you posted this. The Mirror story had  "cheating" in quotes and, as fucked up as bureaucracy can be, I don't think the story as originally presented would have left the guy with no other options aside from a gofundme page. Even the way he came into the house and the wife's underreaction made the dude's story seem suspicious.
