How do I remove the weight stack on this old Universal Leg Extension machine?

I purchased this old leg extension machine and am going to pick it up tomorrow night. Does anyone know or have any experience removing the weight stacks on these things?

Never seen one but Looks like it's welded, are taking it off for transport or permenantly? take a cordless grinder with a few laser discs and cut it out as neat as possible and weld it back together at home

Well...It looks as if it is welded....Look all over to see if there are any bolts.  If not...you have to cut it then weld it back together at the destination......

Or you could transport it in one piece...And I think this would be the simplest.

Just want to take it off for transport purposes.  I once owned a gym and have taken weight stacks of before, but this one looks a little unusual.

Yeah, I think I will have to move it all in one piece.  I have some experience moving gym equipment as a while back I set up a small gym, I know how difficult this can be.  I was hoping to avoid doing this if I could.

You can just apply the gold paint on the stack while it's still attached.

All gym equipment can be taken apart. No company welds weight stacks into place!

Tip the machine on one side and undo the bolts holding the shafts. You will need a socket set.

We have the Universal Chest Press at my facility; The only reason why we still have the POS is because you cannot remove the weights. It has been in on our weight room floor since the late 80's

Looks mechanical, not some digital thingy. I'd start with a basic tool kit and keep going until I reach sledge hammer.

This has been my experience also, when I owned a small gym previously, from memory pretty much all the gear had removable weight stacks, just sometimes the method of removal varied a little bit.  I will let you know how I go.

I picked up this fucker tonight, had help at the pickup end, got it off my van myself and put it under the carport. It is night-time now, I will have a look tomorrow to see if the weight stack can be removed.  I won it on ebay for $2.25 but I gave him $5 just to be fair.  ;D

Just an update for anyone interested or for future reference, I managed to get the weight stack of this thing.  It was four bolts underneath the base and two bolts and nuts for the stopper at the bottom of the weight stack.  I then was able to pull the base away from the frame and remove the plates and the rods.
