What I do care about is him receiving a scholarship, while deceiving others about his race and his past struggles. This takes the potential scholarship away from applicants who meet the requirements. We can all say that Oprah is racist because its a scholarship for black men. But what does everyone say on here? No one should be allowed to tell anyone what to do with their money. That is why its THEIR money! They have a right to spend it however they want to. Oprah chooses to express herself by giving black men scholarships. That is her right as an American. Its her money. This guy knew that the scholarship was for BLACK men, not white men who identify as black and lie about their race and background. Well, there is a difference between how one subjectively views themselves, and how one actually looks objectively. IF you say you're a canary, Id say from an objective point of view, and based on your physicality, you are not a canary. Your features identify you as a human being. But subjectively, how you feel about yourself, may dictate that you feel like a bird lol. I mean, perhaps you adapt the internal characteristics of a bird, whatever that may be.

I mean, for example, lets say a white guy chooses to live with an Indonesian tribe for 10 years. He comes back to America. He is objectively white, but subjectively, he may have adapted many of the characteristics and personality styles of this tribe, and may celebrate their rituals and rites. What he is objectively, is much different than what he is subjectively. Its kind of like the many Americans who are now looking toward Buddishm. They don't look like a Tibetan monk, but they align with those values and characteristics. They consider themselves buddhists.

All I am saying is that dont automatically assume the objective, physical features define the person.  Its obviously much different for race, since being black or white is static, while aligning with a particular set of values or characteristics (buddhism) is easier to do, since its not indefinite. My examples may be shitty, but I think you get what I am saying.

I disagree...because blacks complain about racist white establishements denying them opportunities...so going on and creating a black establishment which only helps one race is openly and blatantly racist.

I personally don't think racism exists in America to the level that will keep black men off jobs. When I was in NYC it struck me how I hardly saw any blacks in investment banking...BUT there was a lot of chinkies and most notably new Indians most as dark as blacks but with very strong accents and smell.

Not going Wiggish at all, as you say.......race can be defined in almost any way........scientists will tell you that race is a construct that we have made up...it is not genetically relevant......many people of mixed race identify as white.......even though white society pressures them to be black.....some whites have a lot of black blood in them.......but don't appear black...so if they identify as black what are we going to do?...do an investigation of everyone's racial background to make sure they are telling the truth??

Let people define themselves......who cares....unless its a sign of mental illness why is it so important really?.
