Funny thing is the "star in the making" in that movie was C.Thomas Howell and Matt Dillon was the other one set to become a superstar, Coppola gave him the lead in "Rumble Fish" the same year. Rob Lowe was also on his way to superstardom, supposedly. Of all those guys, Tom Cruise wasn't the most promising talent and look what happened.
