will you regret that you didnt compete in bodybuilding?
« on: August 27, 2015, 02:58:47 PM »
one day you too will get old, you will look back at your life and the time you spent training, posting on getbig and maybe, you will regret that you didnt compete in bodybuilding, you never did try to get in the very best shape of your life, dieted and put yourself on that stage to see how you would do against others.

its kinda like playing guitar, sure its nice to practice guitar 3 times a week and its nice to be on a guitarforum on the internet talking with other guitarplayers... but wouldnt it be nice to get up on stage and actually play guitar in front of an audience?

for some of you, there's still time... for others maybe the train left the station, compete in bodybuilding is hard to fit in on your bucket list as you get older, its not like bungy jumping... so maybe now it's time to make up your mind.

yours in bodybuilding,

Finally a good thread in this vomit site. Guys... Give this guy a promotion or something.

Always having looked I could pull it off, I kinda feel I should try it. But I just hate how guys look 4 weeks or closer. Not sure I could endure myself but have all the gear and know how to do this.

Also, learning to pose is harder than most think and doing a show no matte how you slice it, is big $$$.

If...  I knew I could easily snag provincial, maybe. But would get easily beaten in the next level, so kinda think it's not worth it for all the expenses and personal sacrifice it takes.

I could snag a local show easily though, but that's not braggin' rights to those who are in the know.

Seriously, it's not like having a great physique is something that can only be appreciated/be useful on a fucking BB stage...

Well you have to ask yourself some serious questions....Do you love the sport of bodybuilding and follow it through and through? Then maybe you will regret not competing in it....If you just like the lifestyle and the look...Then probably not....I will tell you one thing..If you ever want to get into it seriously at a younger age...YOu should be looking to impress sponsors more than impress judges...As this is the only way you're going to be able to make a living if you put everything into it...This is what will keep you able to keep buying drugs so you can keep winning shows...This means having a good following on social media...You have to be able to tell your contest prep coaches before you move up the ranks that you don't wanna buy their shitty protein powders and glutamine to prepare you for the show because you'll win anyway....Gotta tell them that you just want them to help represent you when you compete...You should wanna pay the BARE MINUMUMThis means if they look back in your FB or Twitter 2 years they don't wanna see any bullshit...This means essentially no social life for a certain amount of time leading up to and after you get your sponsor.....If you don't have half-decent genetics to begin with you shouldn't even start in the first place...

Many people here know my history as both an alcoholic/drug addict and sex addict. I squandered many years drinking and drugging before finding AA, and even then spent many more years addicted to strip joints and prostitutes.  With my genetics I could have become a top 10 Olympia. As it stands, I am a broken nobody. However,  now that I am sober in Sex Addicts Anonymous as well as AA, there is some hope. At my age I may never stand on the Olympia stage, but I am training for The Natural Mr Universe Masters Division. My last ditch effort to succeed at something. To be somebody.

Flex wheeler said it takes about 10k to win a pro show....so with inflation it's probably like 15-20k now

Having goals is good.

Being in great shape is admirable and desirable.

But when you look at the "sport" of bodybuilding, it's contributing to something that simply is not pure. If you're doing things for yourself, then maybe you need the competition aspect to keep you on track and striving. But the other side of the coin is... do you want to contribute to an organization that is a couple levels (generously) above the shadiness of Nambla (age is mostly the sole difference)?

Sadly - you know that deep in your heart it really is.. If I hadn't competed and won it I might regret it. I am very competitive and winning is everything to me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, 'You are not a bodybuilder until you, join some federation, pay your entry fee, and stand on stage with other bodybuilders and get judged.'  Then you're a bodybuilder- until that point you're someone who lifts weights

I'm glad I did... I played it far too safe drug wise, but I knew in the back of my mind, if your not repping 4 plates on the bench and not sporting 21's after a few yrs assisted you never will... Altho some demented poor souls will chase this dream and never realise they have never had the tools to enable them.

The difference between a good physique and someone with the genes is huge, and you see it once you get to a national level, the winners stand out a mile, the rest of you all look good, just not good enough

If your living the life you may as well give it a go and see what your made of, its great having a purpose to train and diet for

A few guys at my gym are bugging me to compete but in my mind I'm thinking what's the point at my age. What's the reward? Far more risk than reward in my mind. Plus the costs involved to even compete at a local show just don't make sense to me.

The other thing that bugs me about competing is that as a competitor you have to pay a registration fee. To me that doesn't make any sense, especially when the registration fee is more than what a ticket to the show costs. So the spectators are there to see you, but you pay more just to be there than they do??? To me this is like a promoter bringing in a band to play a show and selling tickets, but also charging the band to play at the show.
