Thought he died because of a heart attack.
Is this a toilet/comfort seat combo?

I've flown in first and business class many times... this doesn't look like an upgrade to me.

only reason he's somewhat comfortable is because the seat next to him isnt taken. put kai greene there and it wont be much of an upgrade

Its not surprising that the WSM is on CBS and the Mr. Olympia is not. Its fun watching the WSM competitions. WAtching a bodybuilding contest is utterly boring.

People can relate more to WSM competitors--most people would love to have that kind of strength. But most people think IFBB pros are hideous to look at.

Its all about what people can relate to. More people can relate to WSM competitors when compared to IFBB pros. Its probably the same reason why arm wrestling is on television. Everyone remembers being 12 years old and challenging your friends to an "arm wrestling contest." Not many 13 year olds are challenging their friends to a pose down in a thong.

What the hell are you talking about?  ??? ???

I am talking about the average person sitting at home. More people can relate to a WSM competitor than they can to a IFBB pro.

Which is probably why the WSM is on CBS (brings in more ratings) and the Mr. Olympia is not.

This is true, and applies to Olympic Lifting and Powerlifting too. Those are just guys moving a fixed barbell, and that's only interesting for a couple of minutes (usually when the giant sized lifters are on) to the average person. It's boring visually, and most folks have little idea of idea of what it takes to move a heavy barbell in that form.

What they do understand is that a giant stone is heavy, a refrigerator is heavy, a giant truck is hard to move, etc...., and that usually grabs folks attention.

And most of us during our younger days, can recall trying to help our dads lift that sofa or refrigerator. Or going over your friends house and moving things around, lifting things, and building things. Even arm wrestling. We an all relate to arm wrestling our friends when we were younger.

IFBB pros are so far removed from what the average person can look like, people just dont care. They think it looks gross.

Wrong. Shut up and go away.

you think people rather watch a competition between guys lifting objects rather than guys posing is because they relate to lifting objects and not posing?

which other sports you think people watch only because they can relate to it? hockey? mma?

LOL! Solid post on everything said.

Watching strong men has anyone on the sidelines just pulling for them to succeed. It's a crowd pleaser indeed. I'd pay to go watch it, it's inspiring.

Just doing tire flipping or trying to flip that big ass tracktor tire (I actually had to grunt to flip it. Once.) is hard ass work and those guys toss that shit around like a bag of groceries.

Exactly. Ive asked people who have absolutely no interest in weightlifting if they have heard of the WSM and they all say the same thing, "Oh yeah, is that where they pull the cars and flip the tires?"  Ask someone if they know of the Mr. Olympia and they will look at you like you have 10 heads. The only way to remind them it to say, "You know, its the contest Arnold Schwarzenegger competed in" and they usually remember. Even then, they still look confused lol.

I think for most of them at the upper levels, it's still just a decent paying hobby. Most of the western strongmen still have day jobs. Shaw probably does well from it relatively, but contest earnings are probably only cumulatively $100,000 - 200,000 total during a top year doing multiple contests.

How much they make on top of that from sponsorship and speaking engagements,  etc.... is anyone's guess.

I agree. Contests in person are snoozefests which is why I don't bother except if I have to cause I'm a good friend.  back in the day when people actually put forth effort into posing routines it could be a little more interesting

In order to make it palatable for TV, they could do features on competitors (training and lifestyle) and then show a few seconds of their routines and then the confirmation rounds. That would be interesting. Kind of get to know them and that minimizes some of the hideousness since they are humanized.

Do it more reality docudrama  style than an actual contest. You would also need more of the charismatic people to participate. Who is charismatic and personable in figure, fitness, mpd, and wpd?
