Its not surprising that the WSM is on CBS and the Mr. Olympia is not. Its fun watching the WSM competitions. WAtching a bodybuilding contest is utterly boring.
People can relate more to WSM competitors--most people would love to have that kind of strength. But most people think IFBB pros are hideous to look at.
Its all about what people can relate to. More people can relate to WSM competitors when compared to IFBB pros. Its probably the same reason why arm wrestling is on television. Everyone remembers being 12 years old and challenging your friends to an "arm wrestling contest." Not many 13 year olds are challenging their friends to a pose down in a thong.
I agree. Contests in person are snoozefests which is why I don't bother except if I have to cause I'm a good friend. back in the day when people actually put forth effort into posing routines it could be a little more interesting
In order to make it palatable for TV, they could do features on competitors (training and lifestyle) and then show a few seconds of their routines and then the confirmation rounds. That would be interesting. Kind of get to know them and that minimizes some of the hideousness since they are humanized.
Do it more reality docudrama style than an actual contest. You would also need more of the charismatic people to participate. Who is charismatic and personable in figure, fitness, mpd, and wpd?
