Unless those DBs are made of tungsten or he's 400 pounds, they aren't big enough to be 110lbs.

I'm going the other way, I think the dumbells are at least close to stated weight. Here's a picture from a company that makes milled steel dumbbells -

They're much thinner than normal cast bells. Those Russian bells are handsome, the machining work looks top notch.

A company called PDA was once tasked with making a stainless steel plate set for a powerlifting contest, and they made a few test plates out of one of the #300 series steels. Beautiful, thin plates, but the cost was too much ($6 - 7 a pound in mid 2000's money), so the project was dropped.
