Further complications. Russia supports the Syrian government. The US has been arming the Southern rebels to over throw the Syrian government and who knows where the arms ended up. Most likely ISIS. Russia if left on their own doesn't fight a rules of engagement war. They will kill anyone using all means unlike the US military who most of the time have to get an okay from a civilian in Washington before engaging a target with artillery or a bombing run.
The reason Russia had a terrible time in Afghanistan is because at the time the US didn't realize they knew what they were doing by attacking them. The US just saw it as a land grab and Ronald Reagan armed the resistance with arms and anti aircraft stingers. Russia couldn't put anything into the sky without it being shot down.
Sad to say the only way these countries can be ruled with these primitive uneducated savages is with an iron fist.
