You missed my point.  A good actor is supposed to convince you that they are someone else.  Like when he play Howard Hughes, I didn't see Howard Hughes but Leo trying to be him.  He seems the same in every movie.  His range is the same except he puts on good makeup to try to look like the role.

He's a great actor, Blood Diamond/Gangs of New York were top films and showed him as a serious actor!

man in the wilderness remake  given a different title...
That`s what I was thinking when I first saw the previews.

The preview alone looked far better than the original though.

I have to disagree. Explain this in the context of say 'what's eating Gilbert grape'  and 'wolf of Wall Street', and the lack of "range".

It's really very difficult to really appreciate an actor's performance on screen unless you know that actor personally.

I know or have watched various actors 'perform' in a scene and am always impressed to watch that individual 'become someone else entirely".

It's sort of like "magic" and almost impossible to do by most people.

I always thought that John Wayne was always John Wayne in all his movies until I saw him perform as Rooster Coburn in one of his late films which was the only time I ever watched him do that magic act.

In general I did not like The Revenant because it was too damn depressing and death comes more easily when you are freezing  and knee deep in ice water.

But that bear scene was spectacular and the initial fight with the Indians was exceptionally shot.

And Leonardo did a great job ... but the ending left a lot to desire.

Did he die or just keep on walking?

Straightforward movie with nothing really clever or unique.

Beautifully shot, gorgeous scenery, but the story is nothing we haven't seen before.

I don't get the hype.

Taken was a formula that didn't stray but was flawless.   This one, nothing special in my opinion.  Not a bad movie to watch but not Oscar worthy.

Nailed it.

Watched them both and it was just Leo acting and not convincing me of his role.

It was filmed using only natural light.

Decent movie. Better than 99% of the garbage hollywood produces.

Assuming there's some CGI, perhaps, in the bear attack? If so, that shit was perfectly seamless. Sparce (as it should be), but about the best I've ever seen.

Also, recall thinking Hardy's character seemed kinda familiar, just couldn't quite nail it down. Then I heard he'd studied Barnes (Tom Berringer) from Platoon for inspiration.

KNEW it.

leo said in a interview it was the hardest movie he ever made,  said he was freezing pretty much the whole shoot.

i read on wikipedia the movie took way longer to make than anticipated and whent over budget as well.

Incorrect.

A good actor is supposed to convince you he is Leonardo DiCapriciossa, even if he isn't.

Decent move, plot was overly simplistic.. I wanted to know more about his son and that back story

that Bear scene was epic

What move was it that was decent? The one where his is moving his arm upwards and aiming a rifle?

Or do you mean his move from Pennsylvania to South Dakota?
