WTF happened to TED talks?
« on: September 13, 2015, 01:10:07 AM »
I used to watch this a lot some years ago and back then it was all about scientific discussions and great minds bringing up ideas of the future and present time. Heavy hitters such as Michiu Kaku, Nobel prize winners, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates etc were invited and had interesting lectures.

Nowadays, wtf? I tune in and the bloated whore of a Monica Lewinski rags on about "shame". This show has really deteriorated over the years. It seems like anyone can hold a Ted talk today, be it a radical feminists calling interruption a form of rape or a model talking about the importance of inner beauty. What a profound selection of topics and ideas they bring to the table. Compare" female oppression through male interruption in conversations" to topics of interplanetary space travel.  ::)

Rip in peace Ted

(BB related as I would love to watch a Ted Talk held by a certain mr O about the challenges and endeavours of responding to haters, pressing 4 plates on the hammer strength and sneaking a good 1 feet in front of the line on the Olympia stage.)

yup I stopped caring after they Banned Graham Hancock's speech at TED.
Anyone who cares about the Homo Sapiens History should at least take a look at his documentaries/books and you'll understand why.

For the TL;DR : He brings up and questions Megalithic constructions all over the world, and how psychedelics created spiritualism/religion/beliefs and how it is very eye opening for most humans.

ThePowersThatBe don't want you to know your true history and don't want you to wake up with the herbs/plants the earth has given us(which has been used to thousands of years until the modern era)

A simple google search "feminism TED" will bring you at least 20talks in their archive.. utter shit now  >:( :'(

Like anything, it's a business.  The more conventions and speakers, the greater the profit.  All you need is 10 grand and a dream.  Maybe 1 of 20 are decent.
I've heard better ideas come from getbig.  The Ted talks are usually a group of high intellect people circle jerking to problem that never get solves and welcome "far out" ideas.
Like a cat chasing it's tale.

"What if we could all be connected, all the time, anywhere in the world?  No, I'm not talking about the internet...I'm talking about a universal hot air balloon that anyone can buy...for just 60 grand.  It has a special satellite built in where you can just speak and others riding on hot air balloons can just hear you.  Pretty cool right."

Some ideas do yield results and are sound...rare, but it's usually a bunch of rich guys sitting around bored thinking up goofy shit.

One Ted Talk featured this guy talking about school lunches and how much sugar kids consumed.  He did the ol' "pour the wheel barrel of sugar on the ground" bit, but took a year's worth of sugar when demonstrating.  If you take a year's worth of anything and combine it into one barrel, it's a gross amount.  Imagine stacking chicken breasts or putting eggs in a large bowl.  It's would be almost 3000 eggs.

Point being...it's goofy shit that usually serves no point.  You know, much like getbig.  Maybe I should attend next year.

Brah you're eating 8 eggs a day?

You might save yourself hundreds of minutes a year if you consider switching to ostrich eggs, they're much bigger than a chicken egg so you'd need to use fewer per meal.

Are you saying that TED Talks went from covering groundbreaking topics in physics to moaning on about "White Privilege"?

Best way to use TED talks now is if you find an interesting nonfiction book, search for the TED talk.  Lots of authors do these and you can get the gist of the book in 15 minutes and decide whether you want to go deeper.
