Well using myself as reference, every year that goes by I am less and less interested in hearing from politicians mourning this event because in my mind it was an inside job. For the first few years I was very interested because I believed the official "story". I am sure not everyone is the same but I think people have an uneasy feeling about it.

I do not specifically, but I would believe they wouldn't open the towers until the basement levels were considered safe and open.
