He was a genetic freak.   Completely forgot about him. When flexing that bicep he was impressive like no other .

He used to wear glasses right ?

are they still married?  usually when someone gives up their dream to be with someone else; it doesn't last.

Negative sir.  Divorced years ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

how often does that happen.   give up on yourself to try to keep some kunit happy and in the end she ain't worth it.  sad.  he had an incredible look.  when Ronnie first turned pro they talked about his muscle 'popping'!  Darin had that too. very few guys did tho.

I always thought Darin's arms bore a remarkable resemblance to Arnold's. Among the best arms ever in my opinion!

Darin was unbelievable. There's a few people over the years that have been burned in my mind because of their impression on me. I've seen all of them like Tommy. Lou's fn eddy Munster ball bat forearms during his comeback at Venice, dillets first appearance in Venice, Aaron Bakers shape at his peak, Shawn Rays overall beautful PP physique, and Darin ranks right up there with them.

How can u want to look like the stupid pregnant physiques of today.

BOOM!  Take a look at this hunk of a man. (No homo). Darin had it all.

He got involved in some gay for pay photos n shit but that's been discussed before.

Btw Tommy, not like i was anything special but I got bugged about that all the time bitd at Venice. I could see how easily one could fall prey to that shit on a bad night.

Anyway. Darin's most likely better off he's out of that scene anyway. Not like the guys of yesteryear are breaking any financial or health records.

I remember Lou before his comeback relatively slimmed down. Then about 6 months later, he looked huge. I remember him doing lateral raises at World Gym wearing a World Gym sweat shirt with the lower arms cut off and thinking "Wow, look at those forearms!"

Negative Stunt.  Darin does have two brothers but neither was a bodybuilder. His younger brother is a good friend, Mike.  Mike was an excellent high school and collegiate wrestler.

I watched Lou train on an almost daily basis during his come back.  Jesus fucking christ was he enormous. The vascularity in his forearms was absurd.

not only the vascularity but each individual muscle in his forearm was like thick steel cables.  U cannot imagine unless you saw him in person. Back then no one had cameras etc.  Too bad more pix didn't exist.  Today every nobody selfies themselves.

that's the thing,  in the 90's I saw so many incredible strength and size examples that would blow your mind. but if someone showed up with a camera they'd get the shit kicked out of them.

How about this....when I was at Venice back in the 80s-90s everyone rushed from machine, super sets, grueling workouts and sweat and rush rush rush.

I left the area to build my business for 10 years then came back well off enough to train at Venice about every 8 weeks for a week.

When I returned after that 10 year absence from the mecca I noticed something peculiar.  The guys that I was seeing in the mags were working out like slugs lifting sissy weights.  I swear none of them sweat.  Well I can't say all of them but I swear most of them looked like sloths moping around them gym. I was shocked how different these new guys were working out compared to the old crew.

Yeah, he looked crazy. I believe he went from a relatively slim 250 to almost 300 in about 6 months. He impressed the fuck out of me to be sure!

I was just a regular guy who loved to train, but whenever I treated myself to a workout at Gold's back in the late 80's/early 90's they never failed to be the best workouts ever. The energy and inspiration you got from watching guys train hard and with purpose was contagious and inspiring to say the least!

I've heard those same sentiments expressed hundreds of times regarding a workout at Golds Venice. The place really did cause that type of workout/response. Very cool indeed.

I trained there for a glorious two weeks in the early-mid 90's. It was back when there was a reciprocity agreement between all the Golds affiliates. I visited a friend who lived in Santa Monica specifically to party and train.

So worth the while.

Yup, Guy had the whole package like Dennis Newman. Think Tommy commented about him in an older thread. Never mind, didn't read the thread before posting :)

So true. I was there in 87 on a belated honeymoon with my 1st wife which is a whole other story. We were staying with my brother who lived less than a mile away at the time on Marine st. in Santa Monica. I would wake up and be at Golds by 10:00 am the latest. I had a membership from Golds in Sunrise Fl at the time so didn't pay a dime to train there. Can't even explain what it felt like to train there. Benched with Lyle Alzado, Mike Christian training on the other side of the gym. Lisa Bonet being trained by her personal trainer who was talking to me and screwing around. Aaron Baker was there every morning too. Just an experience you never forget as a bodybuilder. The atmosphere in that place was like no other. Tommy and others can surely attest to that.

Not to mention I met Lee Haney after the '88 Olympia. Much more impressive in person than in photos. And truly a great and humble human being.

Met Gregory Hines as well. Very cool guy. Too bad he's gone. I used to see Phil Williams a lot as well. Very impressive shape.

Tommy, did you know a Hawaiian guy that work there mid nineties? I think he had a 4 letter name that started with 'A'?   he would always remember me and my buddy and let us in free.  I'd never ask for anything free, but it was pretty cool that he remembered us from one year to the next.
