Here we are in 2015, with 888 digital channels and the biggest show in bodybuilding isn't even shown  on ESPN 8 " the ocho" at 3 a.m. LOL.

Now the coverage is right up there with drunken bar slut selfies and bathroom posed instagram pics. ::)

So what? Back in the day, the Olympia was on ESPN........three to six months after it happened at 0-dark-30 in the morning.

To put this in perspective, Heath made five times as much for his 5th Olympia as Haney did for his last one.

GRAPE, Actually you ask some pretty valid questions and this is my attempt to offer some pretty valid answers ......

Was there less of a crowd at the event or the expo?

NOPE. I have been informed by valid sources (more than a couple) that the Expo attendance increased by approximately 10% this year.

And the Friday and Saturday nite attendance was almost full. Maybe someone can elaborate on that.

I stopped counting when I got to '26".

Didn't they double the prize money for the winner?

Nope, but Mr. Pecker increased it by $100,000 during his introductory speech. But don't ever expect to see a pro football pay-scale.

Did Kai just land some ESPN deal or something?

I seriously doubt that ESPN would want to be associated with Kai.

How do you know if it's really "dying"?   Maybe this board has just leveled off.

I may be one of the few GetBiggers who think that the Oly is NOT dying, but without valid stats ..... it's difficult to argue with those who think it's on it's last leg.

I would assume that those who think it's dying, have never been to an Oly contest to personally observe the interest or simply think it's dying because it's  'politically correct' on this GetBig Board to think it is.

As someone mentioned above we can all expect a huge growth surge within the NPC/IFBB when this new classic division comes into play.

And then the 'hatred' will really blossom.

But have no worry, GetBig fans!  .... the Oly is still in its  infant stage with many years to go until all these divisions come together and are combined as one to satisfy one and all.

But even then .........

Thanks stunt, appreciate the feedback.
Y

Yeah, normally the live webcast thread on Getbig is blowing(no homo) through page after page.

At least 40 pages last year were grapefruit references so Kai being out obviously hurt.

Also there was much less lag on the webcast for me this year, and it could be there was less web traffic trying to get through.

The number of hits to the webcast would be a good proxy but we don't know that number.

And why is it that, all of a sudden, people are whining about Greene not competing this year? When he was competing, all we heard was he should not be onstage due to his controversial past. Now, that he's gone, there's wailing and bemoaning about his absence.

The Mr Olympia POLITRICKS killed Mr O bodybuilding

The Mr O is guy Relevant.  Youtube muggz with a silky tongue can outsell the sponsors of the Mr. Olympia.

Kai Greene made more money Guest Posing than Phil heath made all year.  Everybody knows he blew the Olympia off.  And it worked.  Nobody is talking about the Mr. O.  Nobody is buying Phil's supplements.  Nobody trust the Mr. Olympia.  Besides, supplement companys must be the DUMBEST clowns in bodybuilding.  They act like its the 1990's.  Whack fillers posing as supplement Do Not Sell!!!

I beg to differ. How about 45-year-old former Mr. O, Dexter Jackson, looking terrific and coming oh-so-close to winning another Sandow. And he competed in multiple shows this year vs. Heath's just doing the Olympia.

Dexter is a phenom but he's pretty unknown outside of the BB circle. On the other hand, guys like Kai and Jay have managed to gain an element of mainstream popularity so have far more fans. Everyone here likes to joke about Kai but we all have to admit that he's probably the most entertaining pro around at the moment.

Where does jay have an element of mainstream popularity?  Kai seems to be one of the only people branching out from the industry

Phil could most definitely do it but he's acting too stupid

&

http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=580720.0

Quote from 2015 thread

From 96 pages to 17 pages????

WTF???

Mr Olympia fucked up this year, hell they should have gave it to Dexter to shake shit up

This sport is Dying - the lil ass Physique boys are taking over

If you aren't interested in the divas in the pageant why post about it?

Most of the guys on stage don't even look like they wanna be there.  Most look like they're more excited about a nap and cheeseburger.

They've reached the pinnacle of their respective "sport" and they're emotionless.  I know they're over dieted, carb depleted, tired, yada, yada, yada......part of the deal.....grab sack and nut up.

These gorillas trained and dieted and pincushioned themselves to be on that stage.  The throngs of of schmoes bought their tickets to see the dancing monkeys......so dance!

Even if the physiques are weaker than the past so what?  Bring some intensity on stage.   Guys from the past showed aggression on stage.  Yes, it's a beauty pageant, but it's the freakshow pageant.   Get in people's faces a little in a fun way.....show some emotion.

I think Jay is one of the most recognizable figures in BB. Go to any gym on the planet and most of even the casual lifters would have heard of him. He's still one of the most popular attractions during BB expos and events.
