Love it. Great flick. Ken Kesey hated it.

Stephan King hated the Shining. One the the best Horror movies of all time. Stephan King didn't have the intelligence to get Stanley Kubrick...

Read it years ago. Too effin`long. I just finished it to finish it. I know some people say it`s his best, but I didn`t get it. I much preferred his other long book, ĚT.`

Ok, my thoughts exactly. Except I didn't feel compelled to finish.

Think you're right. For reference, compare it to the 'made for TV' version he endorsed.

Stephen King hated the movie adaptation of The Shining; maybe Nicholson's womanising was the issue.

Not sure if it has been said but this was one of 3 movies to win the big 5 oscars - best movie, director, actor, actress and screenplay. Silence of the Lambs was last one to do it (1991) and It Happened One Night (1934) was the other... never seen the latter but first two are deserving of such greatness.

Nurse Ratchet fucking over the free spirit in the name of rules and "she knows what's best" is just like the shitty nanny state world we live in now where any alternative opinions are shot down and legislators push their version of "what is best for us" down our throats - enabled by the docile and clueless masses, just like the vote on the World Series failed cos of all the vegetables on the ward.

Wonderful flick. Capra. Not quite screwball comedy, but close. A great story, and in-and-out in 90 minutes - today's Hollywood should take heed.

Perhaps he didn't like it because it had a good ending, something King isn't familiar with?

Well, he disliked it, for one, because the book ended in fire and Kubrick ended it with ice. Apparently, the tenor of the Overlook spirit, was a big issue for King.

Something about his wife in The Shining made me want to bash her head in too.  Seemed like a nagging whiny bitch.
Cuckoos Nest...brilliant film with all around great acting.  Poor Billy Bibbit...went from overnight rockstar to suicide...all within a day.
Imagine this generation nothing, looking back and all they'll have are Kardashian reruns.  I can't think of many modern movies that are close to many older films.

The wife in cuckoos nest has punchable face/10.

Cuckoos nest was before i was born. Issue is kids now think 2 years ago is old. Most kids now dont know who clint eastwood is.

If any of the stuff in this theory below is true, than the wife played the part perfectly of a sexually abusive husband who she was scared to death of...

What wife?

Sorry i meant the shining.

She reminds me of chief brodie's wife in jaws except with the eyes of a bratz doll.

Can you elaborate a bit?

Also heard he was unhappy with Kubrick glossing over Torrance's alcoholism.

The end of this movie almost brought tears to my eyes. The music playing while the big Indian lifts the water fountain and the determination he shows to get out, all after helping his friend pass on, is an emotional roller coaster. I'm man enough to admit that it is a very moving film.

70s was a great film decade, possibly the greatest. 90s, too. Think audiences just got stupid and lazy after.

Popular threads here about the next Batman, Superman, or Captain Avenger and the Fantastic League of Iron X-Guardians should help clarify why studios just focus on crap anymore.
