prob the most brutal, gruelling heavyweight championship fight ever

in 37 degree or more heat and 90 % plus humidity

Ali and Frazier went to war

no man was the same after that fight

only holmes Norton was a better fight for drama, action and brutality

Well fuck me - I agree with old school... You are spot on with this. I didn't realize it was the anniversary but I concur with your assessment

Ive watche that fight 10 maybe 15 times. Great fight. brutal. In retrospect it was a little more one sided than people tend to remember.

You are right though. Both men lost a part of themselves that night.

Ali's skills and desire diminished greatly afterward. most of his last fights were very competetive and he benefited from a lot of close decisions. You couldsee he was a shadow of himself. Frazier staged a mini comeback until a rematchh with Foreman ended it with another kayo loss.

Ali and Frazier, two of the GREATEST ever, power, finesse, courage, brutality, lethal .... all describe these incredible athletes.
Styles make fights though.... Foreman literally wrecks Frazier and Ali puts him down, ( although no re-match ever offered  :o ) Norton arguably beats Ali 2/3
Ali had the heart of 2 lions and a jaw of granite .... def top 3 all time heavyweight
Frazier I think is underrated as an all time heavyweight, gotta be top 7 or 8

Great documentary on I think hbo about it a while back. Ali said it was the closest he ever felt to dying.

.

One thing I always respected about Frazier was that he never soft peddled his dislike of Ali, even in the later years.

Yep, I'm actually in the Frazier camp. Respect Ali of course as one of the greatest athletes of all time, but not a fan of the man himself.

Yes, he had a semi-detached retina in one of his eyes for most of his career.

Joe soundly beat Ali in their first fight

but Ali really gave joe a beating in the last few rounds in Manilla

Joe was a true warrior- ducked NO ONE

had an under rated defense and only had a 73 inch reach, but still could get inside much taller and loner reached opponents with slipping/sliding, foot work, speed
