Now trump believes he is smarter than the generals.   Smarter than all the other repubs.  He wants to hand over all the strategic benefits of setting bases up in Syria, to Russia.

When will repubs stop being silent, and criticize this democrat already?

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump shared more of his views on foreign policy Friday, telling an audience in Oklahoma his 2016 rivals want to “start World War III over Syria” and suggesting the U.S. let Russia take up the fight against the Islamic State in the region.

“They want to start World War III over Syria. Give me a break,” Mr. Trump said at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, The Hill reported.

“You know Russia wants to get ISIS right,” Mr. Trump said, using the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. “We want to get ISIS. Russia’s in Syria. Maybe we should let them do it? Let them do it. What the hell are we, crazy?”

Mr. Trump’s remarks come as Russia is increasing its military forces in Syria, a move which has alarmed U.S. military and administration officials.

I guess Trump doesn't realize this.

NEWSWEEK:  The Real Reason Putin Is Sending Troops to Syria

Predictably, Russian President Vladimir Putin's intervention in Syria surprised the West. While it seems we've now figured out Putin's objectives there, how they fit into Russia's larger strategy still remains obscure. But we must begin to address that larger strategy even if the analysis remains incomplete.

Besides sustaining Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as long as possible, this intervention builds on Russia's long-term effort to project enduring naval and air power in Europe, not just the Middle East. Moscow has long sought naval bases in Cyprus and Montenegro.

Russia's military escalation in Syria confirms and extends the strategic significance for Moscow of owning virtually the entire Black Sea and using it as a base to project power, maintain strategic influence and enforce gunboat diplomacy throughout the Balkans and the Levant through a combination of arms and amphibious operations abroad.

Moscow is also trying to create a coalition—if not a bloc—of pro-Russian Shiite or anti-Sunni Alawite states with which to confront the United States and its allies. This bloc aims to force Washington to acknowledge Russia as an equal player there and give it veto power over United States and allied Middle East policies. . .

Russian strikes again expose US disarray

New York (AFP) - Russia's dramatic entry Wednesday into the Syrian war put the United States on the back foot once again and left Washington struggling to regain the military and diplomatic initiative.

As US Secretary of State John Kerry was in New York trying to coordinate with his Kremlin opposite number Sergei Lavrov, a Russian officer contacted the US embassy in Baghdad.

His message was simple: Russian jets are about to launch air strikes in Syria, please stay out of their way.

Kerry quickly protested to Lavrov that this was not in the spirit of Moscow's promise to agree a "de-confliction" mechanism to ensure Russian flights do not interfere with US-led operations.

But the strikes were already underway, potentially altering the balance of power in Syria back in favor of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and Washington was looking at a fait accompli.

Correct.  He did not.  Rubio was gracious to explain that to him.

It seems like his goal of Russia pulling out of  Syria may never happen.  Has obama FAILED?  Will trump get his way of "letting russia handle it"?

  • Our forefathers would be shooting by now
I think they ran out of cash to support their deployment or they don't see a way to win without massive ground troop commitments. Its easier to take back parts of the soviet empire then deploy to Syria and fuck around in another mid east war.
