I actually listened to a program on NPR where the dude(black) was saying that it doesn't count, because a white person could change their last name, and then their children would never be known to have had Irish/German/Polish/Whatever the group being discriminated against at that time was. That because black people had dark skin, they couldn't change their origins, thus they would always be discriminated against. Crazy thought process there. I think it has more to do with folks just rising above and assimilating.
